Elrod Gets Help From Daniels

Jon Elrod's campaign to win the 7th District special election is getting a little help from Gov. Mitch Daniels as he urges Republicans to come out and help him in Tuesday's special election. Daniels had this e-mail message to Republican voters this weekend:

Next Tuesday we have a tremendous opportunity to elect our friend Jon Elrod to the United States Congress. I've been impressed with Jon's thoughtful leadership in the Indiana House and I know Washington needs leaders like Jon who are focused on offering Hoosiers solutions, not talking points.

The Indianapolis Star, in its endorsement of Jon yesterday, rightly asserted that "Jon Elrod is the best prepared to serve" the citizens of Indianapolis .

I hope you'll join me in voting for Jon on Tuesday. But first, there is much work that needs to be done.

Our distinguished senior Senator Richard Lugar has been leading the effort to turn voters out on Tuesday to vote for Jon. An impressive grassroots effort is under way, but more volunteers are needed to make phone calls and knock on doors to targeted voters in the critical final 72 hours before the election. Below is a list of opportunities to volunteer for Jon's campaign. With your help, we can elect Jon Elrod to Congress on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, local TV stations pretend Andre Carson's campaign has not been engulfed by a campaign finance scandal surrounding a controversial fundraiser hosted for him in Washington, D.C. last month by a terrorist-linked organization. As Advance Indiana first reported, Carson has already returned at least one contribution from that controversial fundraiser from a contributor with questionable ties. Typical of the local TV news reports on this last weekend before the election is useless dribble like this report by WTHR today.

You can't do much better than an endorsement from the Governor, but does he know that Elrod favors the elimination of property tax- YEAH!

I've been surprised how many people I've talked to who seem to know at least a little bit about Andre's controversial fundraising. I have to assume it is spreading by word of mouth from what you've reported, Gary. Keep up the good work.

Gary, these blogs bring the voters out. You are the man.

Actually Anon 6:18 it would be more of a surprise if Daniels did not endorse a fellow Republican for that seat.

Still Elrod would be a far better representative than Carson. I'm not holding out much hope though.

What a shocker...first Lugar supported him and now Daniels...and they're Republicans! This is truly amazing news! WOW!

You're the news breaker! What a great blog!
