Peterson Administration Rocked By Parks Department Scandal

EMPLOYEE STEALS $350,000 OVER 6-YEAR PERIOD
Financial oversight at the City of Indianapolis' parks' department is so lax that an employee in the accounting department, Kenya Miles, was able to steal from park district funds repeatedly over a 6-year period, adding up to $350,000. Not until a Chase Bank employee became suspicious of transfers from city accounts to Miles' personal bank account at National City Bank and tipped off the City was her stealing brought to a halt.

WTHR-TV reports that National City Bank froze Miles' personal bank account after being contacted by the city about the improper transfers. WTHR's Roger Harvey drops this little bombshell in his report. A 2003 audit turned up serious problems with oversight within the department's accounting department. Peterson's administration took no steps to improve financial oversight.
