Casino Group Picks Another Former Lawmaker And Gaming Commission Member As Leader

Former State Rep. Mike Smith (R) served for 13 years as the executive director of the Indiana Casino Association, a trade group that represents the interests of the state's casino industry before the General Assembly and the Indiana Gaming Board. Smith recently retired from the organization, which has tapped yet another former state lawmaker-turned lobbyist and state gaming board member as its replacement director.

Former State Rep. Matt Bell left the legislature to become the head of the Regional Chamber of Northwest Indiana in 2010. Bell, who had taken a strong interest in alcohol and gaming issues while a member of the legislature, was appointed by former Gov. Mitch Daniels in 2011 to the Indiana Gaming Commission, a position he stepped down from just last year. He later became one of many lawmakers to work for Ivy Tech before starting his own lobbying firm, Catalyst Public Affairs Group.

"work" is a relative term there. It's nothing more than legalized ghost employment.
