Officials are investigating after dozens of .gov email domains with ties to Indiana city and state government entities were among the millions of member email addresses outed in the Ashley Madison data breach . . .
Among them were eight domains tied to the city of Indianapolis at indy.gov . . .
Other Central Indiana domains listed in the data are tied to Carmel, Greenwood, Hamilton County and Madison County.
Greenwood officials said they quickly looked into the matter as soon as they found out . . .
Several .gov domains also show up with ties to state agencies such as Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Correction, Indiana Commission for Higher Education, Indiana Public Retirement System and the attorney general. They, too, are probing employee activity . . .I would add to the list of local government employees affected by the released documents, Bloomington, Franklin, Monticello, Terre Haute and South Bend. Greenwood officials told The Star the e-mail addresses attributed to their e-mail server were invalid. A spokesman for the City of Indianapolis and the Department of Correction told The Star they were still investigating the matter to determine if there were any employees who violated computer use policies.
UPDATE: The South Bend Tribune acknowledges South Bend and Mishawaka government e-mail accounts are implicated in the leaked data from Ashley Madison. Incredibly, the report credits the Indianapolis Star with first reporting on state and local government e-mail accounts being included in the leaked data. Sorry guys, but Advance Indiana first reported it. The Indianapolis Star merely picked up on the story first reported on this blog. South Bend City Clerk John Verde has confirmed he once opened an account with the site using his city e-mail address while he was single. He says he stopped using it as a dating site some time ago.
It also appears Bloomington has confirmed the authenticity of three e-mail accounts tied to its e-mail server. Two belong to firefighters currently employed by the city, while a third belonged to a former employee of the city.

Was this website blocked on work computers?
wow, a witch hunt. I do not want government employees spending their work day on things other than work, but surely an employer can tell when work is not getting done rather than pulling out the card of misuse of computer resources. This is like punishing an employee who refills a water bottle before leaving for the day. Technically he has taken government property (the water) without paying for it, but it is so cheap, who cares.
The same thing with using a work email address, yeah there is a little cost, but why not focus on the actual employee productivity?
I'm sure Gary has heard of the 'white hats' inside Pentagon, DOD, CIA who are working to expose the bad guys in gov't. Researcher David Wilcock says Snowden is part of the group.
Evidently the hack is sophisticated and the hackers left no identifying trace. This is no the work of amateurs. Part of me wonders if this is an op from inside government filth.
I poked around inside that dark world and saw a lot that disgusts me.
Jared the Subway guy used to call me a lot after inadvertently meeting me downtown. His Caller ID always blocked (coward) he wanted to talk about his proclivities. He never spoke of children but was creepy. He grew tired of me when it became clear I was no prostitute.
Jared never paid me a cent do I owe him no confidentiality.
But I will say this. Government is full of filthy lying cheating men. I hope this hack roots out powerful ones and exposes them without mercy. They are betrayers of trust.
Former CIA Director William Colby wound up dead in the Potomac River after he collaborated with folks trying to uncover the Franklin pedophile ring. It was just an unfortunate boating accident we were told. A pleasure boat ride he decided to take after leaving behind his uneaten dinner on the table and TV still running.
I also follow the pedophile whistleblowers. Often, where there is a sex addiction, the pedophilia is there too. That's why I take no issue against this hack.
I'm hoping it will be used as a thread to pull that will lead to bringing down the pedophiles . . . who many, no doubt, also lurk on the Ashley Madison site.
The pedophilia goes to the very highest office in America. Don't think for a second it's not real. And it is worse than you think.
This might be a backdoor way they're exposing people so the whistleblowers remain anonymous. At any rate, the hack is professional.
"Jared never paid me a cent do I owe him no confidentiality. "
Is that how you think it works?
Yes, anonymous coward commenting without posting your name, it was exactly how it worked. I owe Jared nothing for stealing my time.
Had he confessed actual crimes I would have reported him. He didn't. He just talked about his sexual proclivities.
Had he paid me for my time each time he called me with his called ID blocked, I would have never told a soul.
I have no respect for cheap cowards.
Ahhh Melyssa, you had me until your last comment. I mean, you're not really you, Sweetie. We all know that. Fake Blogger accounts are a dime a dozen, sort of like the chicks at Ashley Madison. I read your profile. No doubt...you're a dude, Kaitlyn.
Melyssa isn't a dude. Sorry to disappoint you.
Anyone could have used my email account. Anyone, anyone, anyone.....
CARMEL, Ind. -- Carmel city attorney Douglas Haney is on paid administrative leave.
“It’s totally unrelated to any business before the city,” Mayor Jim Brainard wrote in an email to Call 6 Investigates Thursday. “Doug has been city attorney for, I believe, 19 years. The interim will be announced soon.”
The announcement that Haney will be placed on paid leave appears contrary to an Aug. 18 email from Brainard to the city council, saying Haney was stepping down.
Timing of this seems to coincide with all the local cities investigating Ashley fans; it's probably just a coincidence - if you believe in such things.
