No Joking About Birth Certificates

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

There will be no joking about birth certificates, Gov. Romney. That's the message from the Omedia. Speaking to a home town crowd today in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Romney told the friendly crowd that his wife was born in Henry Ford Hospital and that he was born in Harper hospital. "No one has ever asked to see my birth certificate--they know that this is the place where we were born and raised," Romney quipped. Actually, that's not entirely true. The Chicago Tribune made a point of publishing Mitt Romney's birth certificate to make the point that his father, George, a former Michigan governor and one-time Republican presidential candidate, was born in Mexico, but that was fair game. News media hounding of his father's natural born status, egged on by leading Democratic politicians at the time, led his father to drop his 1968 race for the Republican presidential nomination rather than defend against a legal challenge to his eligibility. MSNBC talking heads immediately denounced Romney as a "racist" and "birther" for joking about the birth certificate issue, even as the Obama campaign hocks coffee mugs on its campaign website emblazoned with Obama's birth certificate with the slogan, "Made In The USA." The Obama campaign released this statement:

"Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them. It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.”

Yeah, I'd say Obama and his defenders in the media are a bit thin-skinned. They better toughen up real quick because it's only going to get worse in the coming weeks as the American people are finally educated on who this mystery man really is, the media be damned.

America: Just go see the movie 2016 Obama before election day and be sure to VOTE - If Obama serves another 4 years you can expect to pay a ton more taxes and have very little in the way of military defense!

Romney can joke about birth certificates all he wants as long as I can joke about his certificates of deposit - in the Caymans, Switzerland, the Bahamas, Mars, or anywhere else not in America where he might have money stashed away.

I'm more concerned about policies of Obama's administration that causes capital and job flight to other countries. Obama is deliberately collapsing the American economy. His goal is to transfer the wealth of Americans to a totalitarian world government. If I had Romney's wealth, I would be doing everything at my disposal to avoid sending my money to the corrupt bastards in Washington who are hell-bent on destroying this country.

It's amazing to me how your level-headed analyses of the real way the state runs dissolves into runs of imagination when talking about Obama. I am old enough to remember 1968 very well. It was a curiosity about Romney's father being born in Mexico--remember John McCain was born in the Canal Zone. The reason George R. left the presidential race that year was that he referred to being `brainwashed' when he would visit Vietnam and try to see how the war was progressing. In Kinsley's current jargon, he committed a `gaffe', which means telling the truth.

The stock market has done terrific under Obama, corporate profits are doing fine, too. If you are a laborer, things aren't so good, but to read all the hysterical comments from people about how Obama is leading the US into a path of ruin sounds like people are in a sealed echo-chamber. The govt. can almost borrow money for free! That does not mean that our debt is of no concern, but it means that one should avoid cataclysmic language.

Fortunately you give really good coverage to a lot of Indiana news, which gets overlooked by the newspapers and especially the TV media. Thanks

So, tell me, varangianguard, is it illegal to have CD's on deposit in different countries?
Which law is it that prohibits that?

varangianguard said...

No, it's the apparent tax evasion activities that draw my scrutiny. I guess you're OK with that?

There is a difference between tax evasion and tax avoidance. The former is illegal, while the latter is legal. There is no indication that Romney has done anything illegal. Now Obama, on the other hand, took cash bribes from Tony Rezko on which he never paid income taxes. That is a crime, and one that the U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago was fully aware but chose not to prosecute because of the harm the country might suffer if the country's first African-American was sent to prision with Rezko and Blagojevich. If justice had been done, Obama would have been prosecuted. He was every bit as culpable as Blagojevich.

"evasion" and "avoidance" are semantic hair-splitting by lawyers. Where does a supposedly "moral" person draw a line and say, that may be "legal" but it isn't "right"? I see where Mitt Romney draws that line ( or at least as clearly as I can considering how much he seems to need to hide from scrutiny).

Legal perhaps, but ethical? Moral? Christian (or Mormon)? Something in the Bible about rendering unto Caesar...but, not for some I guess.

Ironic how it becomes so very easy to hide behind "law" when it suits one's self-interest.

I take it you've never contributed money to a 401(k) or similar plan, purchased a home so you can deduct your mortgage interest or taken a deduction for a charitable contribution to reduce your tax liability.

Better just leave it. I will not sway your rationalizing, you won't be able to sway mine.

Obviously, my arguments must be weak. Yours, too.

That Blogger "not a robot" thing is killing me. Most of the "words" are illegible too often.

Romney might as well not hold back any punches going up against Obama, because even Crist has endorsed his reelection. America's lamestream presstitudes will not like him doing that, because then Romney would make them look bad since they have utterly failed to tell us the truth about the true background of our president.

According to Saturday's Gannet Indianapolis Star editorial, it appears it is not now planning to endorse anyone for president, senator, or governor. Hmmm.
