Rudy Backs Ballard

Democratic mayoral candidate Melina Kennedy may have the backing of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but the Big Apple's most famous former mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is supporting Mayor Greg Ballard's re-election. From the Ballard campaign:
Today we are honored to announce that America's Mayor, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, is supporting Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. Mayor Giuliani was the first Republican elected Mayor of New York City in nearly 30 years.
Mayor Giuliani is hailed for cleaning up New York City, cracking down on crime and vastly improving the quality of life throughout the city. As we all know, in the aftermath of the attacks on September 11th, Mayor Giuliani helped bring our nation together.
Rudy Giuliani is a great American leader and we are pleased to have his support. Mayor Giuliani encourages voters to support Mayor Ballard and said, "having served as Mayor of another great American city, I believe Greg Ballard has Indianapolis heading in the right direction."
Ballard's campaign is sending recorded phone call messages to voters from Giuliani urging support for the candidate, while Kennedy's campaign is sending recorded phone call messages to voters from former President Bill Clinton. If some one had told me six months ago that the closing days of this year's mayoral election would become a competition based on the respective candidate's support from New York mayors and African-American ministers, I would have thought they were crazy. Such has been the tone of this year's mayoral race. Absolutely crazy.
