Did Bayh Drop Out Too Soon?

A new poll of Iowa Democrats shows Hillary Clinton finishing fourth behind former Sen. John Edwards (22%), Sen. Barack Obama (22%) and Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack (12%). Sen. Clinton was favored by just 10% of those polled. The poll is also bad news for Gov. Vilsack, who Iowa Democrats know better than any of the candidates. Sen. John Kerry won the Iowa Caucus in 2004, and he can't be pleased with his non-show in this poll. While it's very early, it's a sign that front-runner Clinton may be vulnerable. If she stumbles in the early-going, the race could become wide open. You can't help but wonder whether Sen. Evan Bayh's early decision to drop out of the race was premature.

Trust me, he got out in time.

He'll be just fine in the long term. And by long term, I mean by summer 08.

Dick Morris, political and advice whore that he is, opines in his e-column that Obama may be sucking all the air out of the room for a very important reason. It makes him No. 2 in most people's eyes, behind Hillary. That keeps money and endorsements on the fence if they haven't committed already. If he keeps up that momentum for a few more months, Hillary will emerge triumphant.

Why? Because this is not a vote race. It's a delegate race. And the national Dem convention has already selected about 455 super delegates, most of which Hillary has locked up, thanks to the structure she and Bill put in place.

Iowa is a speck on the map compared to that delegate race. Their state party tules don't even bind their convention delegates to the caucuses' outcome. It's strictly a beauty contest, which the national media sucks up like it's real.

Laughable.

Even East Coast Libs think Hellary is a joke. They wouldn't want her nominated if anything to keep from bringing out the Radical Right (and Religious Right) in droves to ensure her defeat.

It appears Osama will be the golden child of the Oprah book club crowd.
