Star Loses Top Sports Columnist To WTHR-TV

The Indianapolis Star's top sports columnist, Bob Kravitz, turned in his resignation today after accepting a new position with WTHR-TV. Kravitz will be writing four or five pieces in the form of a column or blog post, but he is not expected to perform much on-air work. Kravitz tells the IBJ he wasn't looking for a new job; the offer just popped up out of the blue. The Star plans to conduct a nationwide search for a new sports columnist. "We are disappointed to see Bob leave, but realize The Star's stature as the top media outlet and strong commitment to grow and promote our talented staff will prompt competitors to come after some of our people," Star managing editor Ronnie Ramos said. "Top media outlet?" I don't know if I would go that far, but Kravitz' reach at WTHR won't be what it was at the Star where his columns regularly ran in other Gannett major daily publications, including USA Today.
