Council Winners

The Indianapolis City-Council will be led by Republicans by a 17-12 margin. The only Democrat at-large candidate to survive was Joanne Sanders. Republicans Kent Smith, Ed Coleman and Barbara Malone rode Ballard's coattails to victory. Michael Hegg trailed Sanders by about 300 votes in an extremely tight race. Three incumbents lost tonight, including Angela Mansfield (D), Sherron Franklin (D) and Scott Keller (R). Observers were stunned by the size of Keller's loss. Brian Mahern trounced Keller by a 61%-35% margin. Keller raised and spent more than any other council member in a district race. Democrats captured the opened seat of Ike Randolph in District One with J.M. Evans victory over Bruce Henry in a close race.

Coleman (At-large)
Malone (At-large)

Democrat Winners (12):

Big (and well deserved) win for Kent Smith! I think it's fantastic that the two highest-vote getters (at least so far) have been Greg and Kent.

Greg is back to over 4% ahead (his lead had shrunk to just over 3%), and Hegg has that 4th at large lead again. 17-12 GOP, assuming Adams wins?

17 and 18 (Dems) starting to come in. 21 (GOP) still holding out. About 10 precincts elsewhere still out... about evenly split. Greg ahead by just 3%, and Sanders (D) in 3d place in AT large... Hegg odd man out... at the moment.

GOP is gonna hold onto 21 results until 17 and 18 come in.

well 21 is coming in now, too. here we go.... home stretch. Greg increased his lead a little bit there.

I really appreciate the coverage provided by Advance Indiana.

Although, I probably would have voted for Ballard anyway the posts were a motivating factor in making it to the polls today.

Bart just gave up control

Now that the voters have spoken I think the Democrats should rescind the tax increase and let Mayor Ballard figure how to pay the public safety pensions.

Dear Advance Indiana,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful insight and coverage. From the Patrice Abdullah scandal to these elections, you have made a difference in this city.

Many of us did what we could. You were one of the few that led the grass roots revolution.

This is unbelievable.

God bless those who ran, worked for them, and made this happen. God help them fix this mess that the Democrats have created.

I am a Democrat. I am NOT a Marion County Democrat and doubt that I ever will be again.

Sure, no problem on fixing the pensions.

Put a for sale sign on the colts stadium.

Gee, where is Wilson?

To the guy who said I wouldn't get those 200 new voters I registered to the polls was right. I was only able to get 179 of them to the polls today to vote against Keller.
Keller didn't just lose, he was demolished!
So much for all that money and all those endorsements.
Now it's Mahern's butt that's up against the fire.

Duke Olive did NOT win, he had no opposition, therefore the Martindale Brightwood and NESCO communities LOOSE.

If oliver isn't replaced in 4 yrs, that district will go republican.

12:12 AM EST

At that time in the middle of the night I was sound asleep after having gotten up at 4am to be Inspector all day long as my civic duty. It was a good day at my precinct!

well, wilson, congratulations on winning your precinct. your township sure didn't deliver. the number of overall votes in center township CCC districts got swamped by the townships. you failed. you should be embarrassed. the myth of the center township machine is over and done.

That win looks mighty, mighty lonely there, Wilson. LOL I hope you enjoy Monroe Gray's comeuppance ... it's coming.

Yo, could you change the councillor-elect's name to Barbara MALONE?

Thanx!

So happy that Ron Gibson and Ro Conley are *out*.

You were outside most of the day.

Hmmm ... anonymous shady figures stalking my voting place? While I was doing my civic duty helping run the polls successfully, others were out skulking around noting my presence outside greeting voters...
