Bluebird To GLBTs: Drop Dead

The Bluebird nightclub in Bloomington has spoken. It would rather profit from the performance of an anti-gay bigoted singer who advocates the killing of gays than stand for something higher such as acceptance and tolerance of fellow mankind. The club plans to go ahead with the performance of the homophobic Buju Banton tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m. over the objections of Bloomington's GLBT community.

Morgan Tilleman is organizing a protest against Banton's performance tomorrow night. Protesters will gather at The Sample Gates at 8:30 p.m. before making their way over to the Bluebird. "We invite all of you to join us in a demonstration showing our upset as a diverse community, that hate speech is being spread, and bigotry is being accepted," Tilleman said. If you live in the Bloomington area, please come out and support Tilleman in making this statement against the Bluebird and Banton. And if you want to show the Bluebird how you really feel, spend your entertainment dollars elsewhere in the future.

as a gay human being, I am aghast. It seems like a really stupid short-sighted business decision by the owner. That enterprise will be tagged for years with a bad reputation for bigotry.
