Kilroy's Patron Dies From Head Injury Sustained During Fight

A 59-year old St. Louis man has died from a head injury he sustained during a fight in which he was involved at Kilroy's Bar-N-Grill in downtown Indianapolis last weekend. John Hilf was involved in a scuffle with other patrons of the bar when he fell and hit his head on a banister.

The Marion Co. Coroner's Office ruled blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of Hilf's death. No criminal charges have been filed in the case. It is still under review by the Marion Co. Prosecutor's Office.

Hilf's death is remarkably similar to the death of a 31-year old Carmel man last May at the Chatterbox jazz club on Mass Ave in downtown. Michael Lanter got into a scuffle with another bar patron shortly after entering the bar when he fell backwards and hit his head, killing him almost immediately. No criminal charges were filed in connection with Lanter's death.

My advice to tourists coming to Indianapolis is to stay outside of 465, period. If the violence in Center Township doesn't get you, the downtown drinking crowd will. Don't expect justice, either. This city protects its own. That's something you need to think about before you take the bribes to bring your convention here.

Hey Anonymous 7:43pm, have you ever thought the dead guy might have been the aggressor? Why don't you get the facts before opening your mouth.

Anon 7:43 that is the dumbest advice I have ever heard and not to mention your risk assessment is just way out in left field. Hey come to Indy and enjoy our vast roads and fast food restaurants. Come stop by our local Walmart while you're in town. You are far more likely to die/get injured DRIVING around on 465 and the associated areas than you are going about your business downtown Indy.
