Stonewall Democrats Backing David Orentlicher For Prosecutor

Indiana's Stonewall Democrats are hosting a fundraising reception for former State Rep. David Orentlicher on August 16, 2009 at a private home to support his bid for Marion Co. Prosecutor. The invitation from Zach Adamson describes Orentlicher as a "tireless social justice advocate and consummate public servant." Are any other Democrats planning to enter the Democratic primary? Some observers speculate that the Carson crowd might not be really excited about an Orentlicher candidacy given that he challenged Andre Carson in last year's special election caucus and the May primary election. Still no word on the Republican side as to whether Carl Brizzi plans to seek re-election to a third term.

AI: The names I know now are only David O., Terry Curry and Greg Bowes. However, if Linda Pence does not get selected as U.S. Attorney, she'll get a recruitment effort unlike anything you've ever seen. I know AI detests her because she dissed your friend, but in an off-year, Marion County race (where she isn't fighting for attention with the presidential campaign), she'd own any Republican in the county, including Carl Brizzi.

I don't doubt Pence's viability in a county prosecutor's race. She would probably successfully eat Brizzi alive. I can't believe that Obama hasn't named a U.S. Attorney for the southern district after all these months.

I'm with AI and IOPOPA that Brizzi would probably get beaten by Pence and virtually any qualified Democrat. I would think though there would be concern nominating D.O. given his limited courtroom experience.

I wasn't aware that David had any courtroom experience, Paul. And while he is a law professor, I don't think he has ever practiced law, though he's been admitted to practice law in Indiana for the past 10 years.

Just a little note. While it is true Stonewall is having a fundraiser for David O, it is not an endorsement. It's just a fundraiser. Additionally, I am not the leader of Stonewall. Doug Meagher is the president. Heck, Im not even on the executive committee. Just a board member. Stonewall has not had any vote to endorse anyone for prosecutor. This is no indication of endorsement by the organization or the individuals on the board for this race. David asked and we said yes, because of the reasons I listed in the evite that I sent out. He has been, and continues to be a tireless social justice advocate and consummate public servant. And I know no one who would disagree. I am also not the only person inviting people to this event.
This is not the first fundraiser we have had for candidates nor will it be the last, perhaps even for this race. We support Democrats who support us. And if David O is not the poster child for such support, no one is.

Maybe it's a good idea to let someone without courtroom experience try their hand. Lord knows the lawyers who've been in charge the past 8 years don't know what they're doing.

Zach, Your invitation reads, "Support David O For Prosecutor!, hosted by Indiana Stonewall Democrats." That looks like an endorsement to the persons receiving the invitation whether it was intended or not.

Zach, the Dems got beat over the head in 2006 for having a candidate for prosecutor who had NO courtroom experience. David O. has NO courtroom experience either. This issue resonated with the voters in 2006 and will in 2010 ....Why would we repeat our error. Prosector was the only county wide office the Dems lost in 2006 and we will lose it again with a candidate who has never tried a case. In this instance, the GOP has a legitimate campaign issue.

I would vote for David O. before I would vote for Brizzi again.

AI, I was trying to be generous when I said DO had "limited courtroom experience."

The continuing Brizzi silence is because he's getting desparate for somewhere to land that keeps him alive politically, and knows all the doors are closed. The people are onto his game-show-host schtick and won't give him a 3rd term, he blew his chance at mayor due to his internal cowardice, and any federal office (Burton's, Bayh's, Lugar's) will include a national-level vetting by the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee that I think he'd like to avoid. It's all coming back around.

Paul, you were very generous. Limited is not good....no experience is even worse. During the campaign is no time to try and get some experience.

Art, I think Melinda Kennedy had limited courtroom experience, not none. DO I believe has none.

David O is just to the right of Marx on the political spectrum.

Ah, the communist bogeyman... I had to take a year of communism class at Heritage Christian, and the first thing I realized was that Karl Marx was a sad little man with utopian theories that just happened to get an audience of outcasts looking for an excuse. Communism class was time that could have been better spent learning about something useful.

The only people that communism scares anymore, Unigov, are the same people that rely on another sad, odd theory called, "Supply Side Economics".

I'm interested in seeing how David does, but I do wish the political silly season would take a break, and I wish the Birthers and neocons and Brother John Bircher spinoffs would take a very long vacation. Years.

No, Paul, neocon means Chenyite. It means, "I'm ok with throwing the Geneva Conventions out the window and torturing prisoners. It means a VP who doesn't know what his duties are supposed to be or which government branch he belongs to.

"Hint", Mr. Ogden, see the last eight years of Republican Executive Office memos.

Neocon means starting multiple front wars and wanting to start more, in Iran for example.

Neocon means that everything Israel does is fine because of a blind worldview based on a book written by bronze-age primitives and modified by Constantine the Great and King James.

Neo means, "new", Paul? Pitiful.

The four names that I've heard about and have blogged extensively on are Terry Curry and Greg Bowes, who have both filed, David Orentlicher, who has not yet officially filed but is cleary running, and Lowell "Butch" Shroyer, who has not yet decided. These are the four that have been consistently making the rounds to the clubs and are winning the early support.

The truth is that Carl Brizzi didn't win his last election, Melinda Kennedy lost that election. She polled way too well against Carl for someone who didn't have a valid license to practice law until she declared her candidancy. Also, she never worked as a prosecutor. Carl Brizzi should have cleaned her clock, but didn't. He's in real trouble.
