Lake County Council Member Faces Felony Domestic Violence Charges

A Lake County Council member has been arrested by the Lake Co. Sheriff's Office on charges he assaulted his wife and another woman. Jamal Washington (D-Merrilleville) is charged with two felony counts for strangulation and one count for domestic battery according to the Northwest Indiana Times. Police were called to Washington's home for a domestic incident late Thursday night according to a probable cause affidavit, whereupon he was taken into custody. The Lake Co. Prosecutor's Office filed formal charges against Washington today. If convicted of a felony charge, Washington would lose his seat on the county council.
