Hogsett Hosts Bipartisan Dinner With Council Members

Mayor-elect Joe Hogsett is doing something Mayor Greg Ballard never did during his eight years as mayor. He hosted a dinner meeting with a bipartisan group of City-County Council members. Councilors Jack Sandlin (R) and Zach Adamson (D) posted the photo of the council members with Hogsett taken during the dinner to their Facebook sites. Ballard's relationship with the council could not have been worse. He was not on speaking terms with a fair number of them, including some within his own party, let alone taking the time to sit down and have dinner with them. At least Hogsett appears willing at the outset of his administration to keep lines of communications open. Ballard, who had never held an elective office prior to being elected mayor, seemed to think it was beneath him to have to deal with council members.

But where's Ben Hunter? Oh, that's right, we dumped his sorry ass. And the new guy better start making good on his campaign promises. Those vacant buildings aren't looking any prettier.

" Ballard, who had never held an elective office prior to being elected mayor, seemed to think it was beneath him to have to deal with council members. Many Marion County taxpayers might say Ballard also seemed to think it was beneath him to have to interact with and bend to the will of the voters. Or to follow "the law".

Yes, Gary, another appropriate description of how the prickly, thin-skinned Republican mayor approached municipal politics. How foolish, myopic, and just plain stupid. Those are additional apt descriptors of the outgoing mayor for his political epitaph.

My consolation regarding Ballard is to have recently heard my very politically connected buddy (with both "R" and "D" power brokers) respond to me regarding my queries that the ex-soldier thought he could run for State-wide office and actually win. My friend quickly stated that is not going to occur because Greg Ballard is now unelectable. There IS a God after all.

Anon 10:04: Your "politically connected buddy" might be correct. However, I think Ballard and his ilk are arrogant enough to think they can make a challenge for the Republican nomination for governor and win. These people have absolute no boundaries or thought processes.

Ballard being the Ex-Marine probably thought the Council were the enlisted men and woman. Ballard's Generals (The Shadow Government) gave him the orders and he expected the Enlisted Mean and Woman to follow his orders.

I would not get very excited about bipartisan meetings. They are meaningless photo-ops. The McMega-Media will be all excited about these photo-ops as proof the system works. The McMega-Media knows it is all a costume party but they want to convince us it is Democracy in Action. >>> Please ignore those strings that pull on the puppets.

Anon 10:04 and Anon 11:16: If Brewer would have been elected mayor, I think Ballard might have had at least a prayer. But the fact that Hogsett not only won, but won by a landslide, seems to indicate that for the few people that bothered to show up to vote, it was more of a (quiet) referendum on Ballard than anything.

What's the big deal Gary? They're all on the same team. You and I are on the other team. Let's call it what it is...the FUNDING team.

Ballard could easily win the governorship. I have Republican friends, many of whom have painted this picture in their mind that somehow they're Libertarian constitutionalists, and they all think the guy walks on water. It's sad to think that grown adults can be so stupid, but they can and are.
