Pence Orders Arming Of Indiana National Guard Facilities In Response To Chattanooga Shooting

After the recurrence this past week of yet another well-publicized shooting that gives President Barack Obama an excuse to comment on cue for the need to strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights, Gov. Mike Pence is announced today he is taking his own action to protect Indiana National Guardsmen. Criticism erupted this week immediately following the fatal shooting of five soldiers at a recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, who were unarmed when they came under attack by a lone gunman. Gov. Pence is going to change that in Indiana. Here's the statement his office released this afternoon:
Effective immediately, Governor Mike Pence has directed Indiana Adjutant General, Major General Courtney Carr in cooperation with the Indiana State Police, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and local law enforcement to enhance security measures at all Indiana National Guard facilities and installations in Indiana, in the wake of the recent attack on military personnel and facilities in Tennessee.
Today Governor Mike Pence issued an Executive Order directing the Adjutant General to enhance security measures at all Indiana National Guard facilities including recruiting storefronts across the state. The Executive Order authorizes the Adjutant General to permit the Guard to arm military personnel at the state's Guard facilities and recruiting offices and directs several state agencies to assist the Indiana National Guard in implementing this policy in accordance with Indiana state law. Governor Pence is the Commander in Chief of the Indiana National Guard. The Executive Order text can be found in full attached.
The Governor also issued the following statement.
"In the wake of the attacks that claimed four United States Marines and one Navy sailor in Tennessee, I have directed the Indiana National Guard to take appropriate steps to enhance security at all Indiana National Guard facilities and recruiting offices. I have also directed Major General Corey Carr, the Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard, to authorize the arming of military personnel at all Indiana National Guard facilities and recruiting storefronts in accordance with state and federal law.
"As commander-in-chief of the Indiana National Guard, I will not permit our citizen-soldiers to remain unable to defend themselves and our citizens at facilities in our state. Hoosiers may be assured that those who have stepped forward to defend our state and nation will have the ability to defend themselves."
Governors of Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas issued similar orders.

In the liberal mind, unarmed soldiers make perfect sense. Everywhere else, not so much.

I think it appropriate to order the arming of our Indiana National Guard. I know the Governors of several states are issuing similar orders. Although for some states the issue is complicated because Posse committals prohibitions kept military recruiters from being armed. But Posse C. won't stop arming National Guard within our borders, and I believe the military can find an exception permitting them to arm in self defense if the need arises. Posse C is really intended to prevent the military from engaging in local law enforcement and was put in place in part as a deal to seat President Hayes in the election of 1876 and remove federal troops from the South. This country is at war with outside interests now, and being domestically attacked when we least expect it. I want our National Guard to carry sidearms to protect themselves. After all, these are our local boys and men and we don't want them slaughtered with no way to defend themselves if they come under attack. And for you trolls out there who love to attack my posts as coming from the "left", as if that were a mental illness, let me just say that I support the second amendment, I carry a weapon, I grew up on military bases, and I think if our brave Hoosier men are willing to serve, we should give them the weapons to do their job, protect themselves, protect us; and it worries me not a whit. This is one of the moments when I agree with Mike Pence. There are some, notably in Texas, who fear further militarization within the States, and the Jade Helm exercises are frightening many, but we have to strike a balance. We export literally billions of dollars worth of arms to other countries. Some of them have to stay at home to defend us.

The ban started with Bill Clinton and continued with Dub-ya, and continued with Obama, many lives could have been saved if this wasn't in affect, i.e. Fort Hood, Little Rock, and now in Chattanooga, Governor Pence jumped on the band wagon with other Governors to arm recruiters in their facilities, I'm sure the left will be silent on this decision, due to the political nature, but their thoughts will be against anything this man says.

Don’t blame any of this on liberals. Anon 6:31 correctly attributes the beginnings of military disarmament with Posse Comitatus after the civil war, and that remains the reason today for gun free military recruiting offices. Anon 7:26, you really don’t have anything to say. Anon 7:07, you’re just wrong. Most of the liberals I know in Indianapolis are armed and support gun rights, and that includes the gays. My next door neighbor was a lesbian and she was armed to the teeth. The guys who do my lawns are gay and they carry an arsenal of weapons when they work around town. So its stupid to blame unarmed national guardsmen and military recruiters on liberals. It had everything to do with getting the military out of the south after the civil war, but you dumb right wingers don’t read history. Stupid, Confederate flag holders were the problem then, and now. And to the point of stupidity, let me refer you to other news today, where a very popular college professor at Indiana’s Bethel College resigned because the Missionary Church trustees at the college could not deal with teaching college kids anything but Adam and Eve creationism in their classes. This professor of 20 years was forced out because he wanted these young adults to know about Darwin and evolution. And the evangelicals would not accept anything but a biblical teaching. Even at the University level. This is the level of stupid we get out of the far right. Right here in Indiana. So don’t blame “liberals” for your problems, Christians. This Independent thinker, who often believes strongly in liberal opinions, believes in gun rights, and believes in arming the national guard. I also believe in teaching Darwin: And that evangelical Christians are a curse on this State’s reputation in the nation, beginning with Mennonite backwards teachings and ending with Missionary Church teachings that result in what happened at Bethel College; almost a book burning so primitive was the effect.

Well, during Reconstruction you had a standing army occupying States even though Art. IV, sect. 4 states that "The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government." In essence, the Posse Comitatus Act & end to Reconstruction were tools to comport with Article IV, sect. 4.

Don't know much about history
Don't know much biology
Don't know much about a science book
Don't know much about the French I took
Don't know much about geography
Don't know much trigonometry
Don't know much about algebra
Don't know what a slide rule is for

The lyrics to this old song remind me of right wingers. Scottt Walker went to the UK last year and got blasted for being dumb because he said he didn’t believe in evolution, that he believed in the bible’s version of creationism. He absolutely doesn’t look like presidential material. Trump’s done. Walker’s done. Next.

Why do they have to use their personal weapons? Doesn't Pence know the military has their own weapons? As a 30 year veteran of the Guard & Reserves using personal weapons and having to get a gun permit is ridiculous. People this is military not Wal-Mart.

"Why do they have to use their personal weapons?"

Because the Armories have no ammo.

Each company has 40 rounds of 5.56 and 30 rounds of 9mm. 1 round per soldier with many sharing that one round would be the result.

From 'Enemy at the Gates':

Officer #1: [repeating through megaphone] The one with the rifle shoots!
Officer #2: [handing out rifles] One out of two gets rifle.
Officer #1: The one without, follows him! When the one with the rifle gets killed, the one who is following picks up the rifle and shoots!

Plus, you know, the 2nd Amendment and all that.

More absurd procedures. They have turn the military into Obama wimps. I am glad I am retired. God help us if their is an immediate crisis. Who do they think they are going to be able to defend with 90 rounds of ammo per company.

PS. What the heck has the fed done with all that 9MM ammo they bought up?

Last year homeland security bought over 2 billion rounds of 9mm, Google says there are 240000 members of homeland security. Over 8000 rounds per employee lots of target practice?
