The first of 10 large outdoor billboards scattered across Marion County is being dismantled by work crews today. The removal of the billboard, located at just off of I-70 near downtown, is being completed at no cost to the city. The remaining nine billboards will be dismantled in the same manner.

Ten billboards which were illegally erected by Pinnacle Media are finally coming down after years of legal wrangling. This statement from Mayor Ballard's office confirms what others have observed happening:

Thanks Norm Pace, president of the Marion County Neighborhood Alliance.
"The alliance filed a lawsuit against Pinnacle, claiming the company put up the billboards despite a city ordinance prohibiting signage in certain locations within the city."
Too bad that the old mayor couldn't see to it that existing ordinances were properly enforced.
I agree, Art(aka Wilson). Thanks Mayor Peterson for losing the election and allowing something to actually get done.
shutup wilson!
aren't you banned--Ballard is obviously the one who got this done...
In fairness to Peterson, his legal department did seek enforcement of the ordinance. The billboard owners blocked the City's enforcement efforts for years through drawn out litigation.
Peterson and Ballard both deserve credit. Peterson because he initiated the process and fought for years in court to have the billboards removed. And Ballard because he ignored last-minute pleas by the billboard owners to let them stay.
Peterson did initiate the legal action to have the billboards removed. As we all know, the legal process is lengthy and the fruits of Bart's labors are just being seen now. If you think that Ballard took office in January and he was responsible for the billboards being removed in May then you are very naive about the legal process.
Ballard gets blamed for crime in Indy just a few weeks after taking office, and I AM naive?
Pinnacle is owned by Duke. Peterson was a pawn of Duke.
Who got the money from Pinnacle for having these signs up ?
These billboards appear to be on government land - or land controlled by this group:

The Hoosier Heritage Port Authority - the fair train people - owns RR rights-of-way throughout Marion County.
Did they get the money and if so what have they done with it. had to be hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
