By way of Fort Wayne Observed, news comes that students at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne elected a fellow student to a student government office who was recently convicted of causing the death of an IPFW professor while driving drunk. Danny Epple, an IPFW student who pleaded guilty to a felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, was elected to the post of Vice President of Programming over two other student candidates. Fort Wayne Observed reports that Epple caused the death of IPFW economics Professor John P. Manzer.
Citing a WANE-TV report, the Fort Wayne Observed reports that "some at the school say Eppel (sic) won the election because the other candidates were not allowed to bring up the legal trouble-- so many students didn't know [of the conviction]."
So explain this to us: why would the university not allow other student candidates to raise questions about this student's criminal record? Or better yet, why has this student not been expelled from the university? Could the university have found anything worse to slap Professor Manzer's widow in the face with?

The facts are the following. If you do any research, you could find that the school newspaper (The Communicator) wrote an article about this situation prior to the elections. Furthermore, even though the candidates were not allowed to make posters or signs with negative slogans, they were most definately able to voice their opinion while campaigning.. That's how I found out about it.. But I also realize that one aspect or accident doesn't necessarily define a human being.
Firstly the previous commenter is a jerk, the school newspaper prints one paragraph on the subject and you tell the Blogger to do more research. Get a life! Allso, the candidates were told that any negative “campaigning” would be grounds for disqualification. If it wasn’t for one of the candidates threading to sue on first amendment grounds you would have never heard about it. It would seem that you need to get your facts strait.
