Another Teacher Busted For Having Sex With Students

This seems to be reaching epidemic proportions. Hardly a week goes by that there isn't yet another teacher caught having a sexual relationship with students. The latest involves a 31-year old choir teacher at Noblesville High School. Michael Douce faces eights counts of child seduction, one count of burglary, one count of child exploitation and one count of disseminating information harmful to minors, as well as two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Douce is accused of having sex with two female students between the ages of 16 and 18. A parent became suspicious after she found a nude photo of Douce on her daughter's cell phone according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by the Indianapolis Star. Police found five nude images of Douce on the cell phone and multiple sexual text messages between him and the student. The student told investigators she had sex with Douce on dozens of occasions, including on school grounds. Douce allegedly provided alcohol and marijuana to her when she visited his home.

The second student had sent nude photos of herself to Douce and exchanged sexual text messages with him. The second student had sex with him at the school for the first time last May. One of the students told police Douce had come close to being caught when her mother and boyfriend came home unexpectedly according to a WRTV report. The burglary count stems from an allegation that Douce entered one of the student's home with the intent of committing child seduction. Douce is also accused of providing alcohol to the second student as well, in addition to having sex with her on several occasions, including in a girl's dressing room at the high school.

"Douce is accused of having sex with two female students between the ages of 16 and 18."

16- and 18-year old women have been having sex with adult men since the dawn of time, and only in the last 60 years, and only in the United States, has anyone thought these unions improper.

America is an expert at criminalizing foundational human desires.

I think consensual sex after the age of 15 or 16 ought not be criminalized. But I do believe teachers should be fired for inappropriate conduct with students per their employment contract.

Fire, yes. Criminalize, no.

When a woman develops secondary sex characteristics, the male mind instinctively lights up and recognizes the female as of suitable breeding age. This is not a conscious process.

With America's demonizing of absolutely every natural impulse, but particularly sex, we are pushing women to have children well outside their prime breeding age.

A woman is at her lifetime strongest and healthiest partially concurrent with the times it is illegal to have sex with her.

Woman mature differently than men. An 18 year old offensive lineman has no chance against a 32 year old defensive lineman. Not so with women. 18 year old female athletes are close to their lifetime peak. In some sports, they're past it.

Women of all ages think George Clooney is handsome, and he commands huge salaries for every role. Female actresses his age can't land roles.

Again, fire, yes. Criminalize, no.

This is pretty sloppy. There are an estimated 3.7 million teachers in the US. A handful of those teachers who are arrested for inappropriate contact or behavior with students per year hardly an epidemic makes. In fact, I'd go far to say it's statistically insignificant (or even statistically non-existent).

Don't get me wrong - teachers who do this should be prosecuted and should DEFINITELY lose their teaching certificate. It is a huge breach of trust and an abuse of the teacher-student relationship. But please don't take a dig at the multitudes of us that go to work every day and behave appropriately toward our students.

What? If a female is "of suitable breeding age" she's fair game for predatory males?

What planet does 10:13 live on?

Ephebophiliac apologists galore!

If you can't share alcohol with theens or solicit them on the internet legally, it would follow (at least morally) that maybe you shouldn't have sexual relations with them either!

Our laws are screw-y (and so are some of these comments).

Consent is now predation, 5:29?

Sounds like the spewings of NOW or a Womens Studies program.

First, a teacher is put in a trusted position with young students. There job is to teach them, not have sex with them. And, it is entirely appropriate to criminalize this sort of betrayal of trust and professionalism. Throw his ass in prison, where it belongs.

Second, stop rationalizing inappropriate behavior. We do not live in cave men times. If you are 31-year old man or woman and having sex with a 15 year-old, which is someone who is more than young enough to be your own child, then there is something wrong with your head. This sort of behavior should not be tolerated, nor should it be legal.

If you are 31, have sex with people your own age, or older. If you are so immature and twisted that you cannot figure out how to build a relationship with a fellow adult and you need to chase after children, then perhaps prison can help you clear your mind and set your priorities straight.
