Indiana Senate Tells People To Go To Hell

Demonstrating just how much control the billionaire sports team owners have over your elected representatives, your Indiana Senate voted 33-17 in favor of the $48 million bailout of the Marion County Capital Improvement Board. They actually had the nerve to pat themselves on the back as they did so, knowing that working men and women will have to dig deeper into their pockets to fork over tens of millions in new subsidies for the billionaire Simons and Irsay. That's right, Sen. Tom Wyss (R-Ft. Wayne), who doesn't have a clue about what is happening here in Marion County said he was so proud to offer his Allen County bill, creating a new unaccountable Capital Improvement Board monster for his own county, as a vehicle for this tax and spend plan. Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette), your comments about our convention business in Indianapolis were so uninformed I don't know where to begin. Stay the hell out of our business and worry about Lafayette. You obviously don't have any common sense. And Sen. Mike Young (R-Indianapolis) continued to make a hypocritical fool of himself pretending to represent Joe Sixpack. "Joe Sixpack wouldn't vote for this proposal, but I have all the confidence that a better plan will emerge in the end." Sen. Luke Kenley and all of the other naer-do-wells in the legislature are doing their darnedest to make sure we are completely bankrupted in the process of paying off the billionaire sports team owners in gratitude for the millions in campaign contributions they've lavished on these sell-outs who claim they represent our interests. Your voices are not heard in the Indiana Senate. They don't care what you think or how this legislation impacts you. It's all about helping their fat cat friends. This is what happens when you have a legislative body filled with political hacks whose jobs are protected because of gerrymandered districts.

UPDATE: Democrats Jean Breaux and Greg Taylor and Republicans Mike Delph and Brent Waltz voted no. Republicans Pat Miller, James Merritt, Teresa Lubbers, along with Young, predictably voted with the billionaire sports team owners.

Now we can sit tight and wait to see what tax hikes will be 'needed' next year to cover the shortfall that crops up in spite of THESE hikes.

I can't wait.

Senator Jim Merritt voted for that CIB bill jacking up taxes. He had 54% last time and is up in 2010. What is he thinking? Does he really believe it is okay to piss off his Republican base when he barely survived last time? If he is not a target in the primary, he surely will be a target in the general election.

Paul, The GOP is committing suicide in Marion County. The only legislators who will pay the price for this bailout are Republicans in marginal districts. Democrats in Marion County have nothing to worry about.

Sen. Tom Wyss (R-Ft. Wayne) may have a stake in the CIB's success - I think there's a bill in the General Assembly that woulc create a CIB for Allen County.

Can't find the bill #.

Didn't you read the post, Unigov. That's what this bill started out as and still contains.

The digest of this bill with links to roll calls and complete text is here.

This bill is disgusting. It is economic fascism, and it is robbery. I just wrote a furious, barely respectful letter to my state representative for voting for it. We absolutely must remove these fascist criminals at the state and county levels from public office.
