All Good Things Must End

A state championship title wasn't in the cards for my nephews' Marshall Lions boys high school basketball team this year. Words couldn't describe what happened in the 60-43 loss to Massac County better than what my nephew, Logan, told the Tribune-Star. “Everything went wrong,” Logan Eitel said. “It was there, we could have had it. Everything started bad and it kept rolling.” Marshall will play Winnebago for the consolation prize tonight. Massac will face off against Chicago's Seton for the state championship. It was a long bus ride back to our hotel from Bradley's Carver Arena to say the least last night. Making matters worse, the hotel bar closed at 11:00 p.m. If you wanted a drink, you had to take a quick ride down the road to the Par-A-Dice riverboat casino.
Iowa's Jake Kelly drove down to see his old home town team play. He played for the Marshall Lions before transferring to Carmel beginning with his junior year. That's my other nephew, Derek, in the photo with him. Derek is the starting quarterback for the Rose Hulman Engineers and an ace pitcher for their baseball team. Sorry for the photo quality.
