Carson Funeral Arrangements Announced

Funeral arrangements for the late Rep. Julia Carson (D) have been announced. A procession from her home in the 2500 block of North Park Avenue to the State House rotunda is planned for this Friday at 10:00 a.m. Her body will lie in state at the State House rotunda, where a public memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Gov. Mitch Daniels is expected to deliver an address. She will continue to lie in state for public viewing until 10:00 p.m. Friday night. A funeral service is planned for Saturday morning at the Eastern Star Church at 5750 East 30th Street. A burial is planned in Crown Hill cemetary following the funeral service.

Some people have inquired about what happens to Rep. Carson's congressional staff upon her death. Her congressional office remains open until her successor is chosen. The staff comes under the control of the House of Representatives' Clerk of the House until a sucessor is chosen. The successor will choose his or her own staff upon election to the office in a special election.
