Seymour Attorney Jailed After Showing Up To Court Drunk In Shelbyville
A defense attorney drove from Seymour to Shelbyville on Monday for an appearance in the Superior Court but instead found himself on the wrong side of the law and thrown in jail. Judge David Riggins held Joseph M. Robertson II in contempt of court after a court employee complained that he had touched her inappropriately three times according to the Shelbyville News. Judge Riggins also requested that Robertson be tested for intoxication because of his behavior. He failed several field sobriety tests and blew an alcohol level of 0.15 or nearly double the legal limit.
A probable cause affidavit indicated that a witness testified during Robertson's contempt hearing that he had nearly run her off the road on the way to the courthouse. According to the probable cause affidavit, Robertson admitted that he had consumed about a pint of vodka Monday morning but had stopped drinking by 11:00 a.m. He left Seymour around noon on Monday to head to his afternoon hearing in Shelbyville. Robertson, a former Morgan County deputy prosecutor, has been practicing law since 1981.

The legal limit for practicing law?
The legal limit for making passes at women?
is he the son of Former Court of
Appeals Judge Jonathon Robertson?
Yes, he is the son of the late Judge Jonathan Robertson.
In law school, he allegedly mooned
some in the small crowd onhand at Bonfire Tavern (just west of campus) one evening.
