Ballard Chooses War Memorial For Inauguration
Mayor-elect Greg Ballard will be sworn in on New Year's Day at the Indiana War Memorial at 1:00 p.m. No tickets are required for admission, but seating is limited to the first 1,000 people. He will be sworn in by Marion Superior Court Judge David Certo, who Ballard met during this year's campaign. No lavish inaugural parties at which only the high-rollers can afford to attend are planned as part of the ceremony. Hopfully, the "pay-to-play" mentality which has predominated past administrations won't infect the new mayor's administration.

gary, the article you link to says "a celebratory event, possibly an inauguration party" is being planned for 1/19. hopefully it's not for high-rollers only, but that remains to be seen.
Yes, stallio, but it also says:
"That event would serve as a fundraiser for a charitable cause, he said."
It's a charitable fundraiser, not a political fundraiser.
As of today, admission to the 1/19 inauguration party will require either a canned good or $5.00-both to be forwarded to a charitable cause.
Bravo for Mayor Elect Ballard. May he succeed where our last Mayor failed miserably and put the peoples business ahead of personal greed and corruption. May all of the old party bosses (Rep&Dem) just fade away.
The charity thing is brilliant.
What Charity?
Will his volunteers get a good seat?
NO!
Will his volunteers get invited by the Mayor-elect?
NO!
Will Brizzi INSIST that he get a front row seat without having to wait in the cold?
YES!!
What about those who helped you get elected with countless hours of driving around delivering yard signs, making phone calls, and talking to people?
I don't want any more than to be able to see the man sworn in, without having to arrive at 5:a.m., stand out in the cold while the so-called "VIP"s get escorted past me to a front row seat!.
I feel that I played a vital role in communicating his message, then was left out in the cold afterwards.
I decided to move from Marion county as soon as my house sells, whoever gets elected.
Ballard will do a minimal amount for the people of Marion County.
He should at least let his supporters get a good seat at the event.
Make Brizzi stand in the last row.
he didn't do squat except steal center stage on election night!
anon 1:34, I'm sure you won't have any trouble getting a decent seat. A lot of people will be out of town for the holiday, recovering from the night before or just not interested in attending this type of event. Will there be seats reserved for his family and dignitaries up front? Of course, it is only a matter of courtesy.
Reserved seats? Dignitaries up front? Like when the Mayor delivered his Budget Address to the Council this summer?
Oh no! The IndyChicken et al will be outside in the snow ...
How does Dave Certo get that gig? And how does he get a spot on the superior court? He's a complete bafoon and knows nothing about the law. At least he's just listening to protective orders all day. But im sure he believes he's an amazing lawyer.
Politics amaze me.
These people DID NOT support Ballard in any way! Why do the deserve the "courtesy" of a reserved seat? Especially that Punk, Brizzi!
And as far as the Indy Chicken. i doubt he shows up.
Ballard knows the people ousted Peterson for being out of touch.
Maybe Ballard will stay in touch.
5:47, Don't bet on it.
Doubt it will be like the mayors address. I'm sure Greg would allow the public, not just his employees!
Bart had to PAY his employees OVERTIME, OUR TAX $$$$$, to get the to go. They were told if they did NOT applaud, they would be disciplined. Typical democrat. Telling people what to think, not telling them to make their own decisions.
Like all smart birds, the Indy Chicken flew south for the winter.
Dave Certo probably got that "gig" because he believed in Ballard when others did not.
Greg was the underdog. Bart was the best spokesman for the "Why elect Greg Ballard?" campaign. Everything Bart did in the past year helped Greg win.
And Wilson is the best spokesman for volleyballs!
Anon 134 - build a bridge and GET OVER IT already.
5:32, that was my same thought! That's one dude who worked his connections well, because I cannot imagine why anyone would entrust the duties of a judge to him. Lucky bastard.
