Indiana Going To Pot

The Republican-controlled Indiana Senate earlier this year approved legislation to study the legalization of marijuana in Indiana to the delight of potheads throughout the Hoosier state. It fell right into line with Gov. Mitch Daniels' proposal to loosen sentencing laws in Indiana in an effort to turn out thousands of prisoners held in Indiana prisons for drug-related offenses. Gov. Daniels was once busted for dealing drugs out of his dorm room at Princeton and maintaining a common nuisance while he was a student there, but he managed to avoid jail time with the help of his rich daddy, a pharmaceutical executive. Gov. Daniels also wants to be our next president.

Sen. Mike Delph had a reasonable proposal this session to require all presidential candidates to furnish their birth certificates to Indiana election authorities to establish they meet the eligibility requirements set out in the U.S. Constitution in order to appear on the Indiana ballot. Gov. Daniels, whose Bureau of Motor Vehicles implemented new regulations requiring all Hoosiers to produce their birth certificates at the local BMV branch before they could be issued a new driver's license, doesn't think Delph's legislation is such a good idea and let that be known. Enough Republican senators agreed with him to block an attempt to do nothing more than study whether it might make sense to verify presidential candidates are actually constitutionally eligible before we let them put their names on the ballot. So your Indiana senators will spend their summer studying the legalization of marijuana but not something that is required by our constitution though not enforced by any state in the country. Re-legalize pot and deep six the constitution. Go Indiana!

Unlike over-the-counter-medications, marijuana has never caused a single death. The use of marijuana treats many chronic health conditions.

It should be re-legalized immediately.

Amen, stop the madness with prohibition and the failed war on drugs. Legalize, decriminalize and grow some Hemp for God's sake!!!

I'm sure pot has caused a death somewhere sometime. Impaired driving for example can be from pot smoking. You culd light your bed on fire if you fall asleep smoking pot. I"m sure that's happened.

I get your point though. We should at the very least decriminalize it.

I'm not one for legalizing drugs... for the most part they aren't a victimless crime.

But I can't go along with the police state with regard to pot. I don't smoke it - but we shouldn't be ruining people's lives over it. Do you know a minor pot conviction goes on your DMV record... just like a DUI.
That's just stupid.

It would help in many ways and its sad that its taken this long for people to realize it.And there is no confrimed deaths caused by marijuana as for the impaired driving thing i agree but that has never been proven i have smoked marijuana for 25 years and will continue to smoke our State who is in need of JOBS would create thousands from making it legal as well as make our streets somewhat safer do to the mexican cartels who push marijuana on the streets we need to unite and free the weed it was placed here by god for a good reason lets do whats rite and ReLegalize it.

Evidently the deaths from FDA approved prescription and over the counter drugs is just fine by the criminals who run our government.

Here's a comparison of FDA drugs to marijuana. It's sickening this very helpful drug is not legal.

The real truth is that big Pharma (and the cartel behind it) can't abide the competition from an easily grown totally natural helpful herb.

The illegality of Cannabis is preposterous. It is one of the most useful plants in existence as it has over 50,000 applications. It also remineralizes the soil, takes in more carbon dioxide and releases more oxygen than any other plant, is the most efficient way of making paper (and makes the best paper), makes excellent rope and clothing, and THC has been shown to have a direct anti-tumor effect. It is time to end Marijuana Prohibition once and for all and utilize this phenomenal plant.

While it has taken me awhile to get to this point, I can't abide people getting busting for smoking a joint or having a few ounces of any drug, while the prescription drugs destroy lives without little or no repercussions to those who shove them down our throats.

We have needlessly incarcerated an innumerable number of people and wasted vast resources on an issue that would diminish in its intensity if we would stop acting like heaven would envelop us if we could only rid ourselves of illegal drugs. I am more concerned with the pharmaceutical drug pushers protected by the FDA destroying lives than I am of the supposed scourge of illegal drugs.

Legalize marijuana? Well OK I guess...

But then we have to criminalize being 35 years old, living in your mom's basement, being unemployed, getting up at noon, playing video games all day and living off of government benefits.

I know a lot more people wasting their lives due to prescription pain med abuse and alcohol dependance than I do of 'stoners' pontificating Spicole from Fast Times or any of stoner characters that were a product of Hollywood.

Can pot lead to laziness or allowing people to avoid the realities of their life, sure...but when it comes down to it, lots of things can be abused--people have to take some responsibility at some point for their choices, actions, and when to 'recreate'.

The senceless war on drugs has cost me loosing loans & grant to finish college, being able to find a good job to support my son & myself .I am struggling just to pay the $180 a month for probation(18 months) and drug and alcohol classes which I have been told should come 1st or I go to Jail for 18 months.I have a child to support which I pay $75 a week for support for him when my job at temp services that I am limited to for work in my area rarely have jobs.I find myself getting further in dept. with support & daily living expences because I am threatened with goin to jail if I don't stay caught up,which unfortunately I am behind on ,my life is in shambles all because I got charged with a felony for minor possession with a priors within the statue of limitations in Indiana of 10 years. My minor possessions never exceeded 7 grams of marijuana ,this time where I got the felony from a joints worth of marijuana this is absurd .Please I'm not the only person that this has ever happend to & to ruin lives over something that is better for you than legal phara.med's,alcohol, and tobacco which kill hundreds of thousands a year. There is no record where Marijuana has ever killed anyone .Please end this sensless war on drugs & give people like myself our lives back so we can provide for our families ,please..........

@Paul K. Ogden: However, if one is to wreck while stoned or light their bed on fire, it still would not be the cannabis killing the person. It is their own ignorance. Water is not bad, but if I am ignorant and drink to much my cells will drown. Or if even worse, if I sit under a pool of water for 10 minutes and drown, that is my own ignorance, not the water's. :)
