Linehan Files To Run Against Ackles

Former Chief Deputy Coroner John Linehan officially filed his candidacy to run for the Democratic nomination for Marion County Coroner against incumbent Democrat Kenneth Ackles, the Democratic-slated candidate. Also, incumbent County Surveyor Mary Catherine Barton filed to run for re-election, notwithstanding the decision of Marion County Democrats to dump her in favor of Debra Jenkins. Two losing Democratic judicial candidates, Angela Davis and Vickie Ransberger, are challenging the 8 slated Marion County Democratic superior court judge candidates. It remains to be seen whether any of the three Republican judges dumped at last weekend's Marion County Republican slating convention will file to run for re-election.

UPDATE: According to an updated filing list prepared by the Marion County Election Board, Dr. Lloyd Frank has also filed in the Democratic primary for coroner, making him the second challenger to Ackles. Also, Alex Murphy has filed to challenge Louis Rosenberg for circuit court judge.

Vicki Ransberger? She's the Magistrate I developed my "Objection to Magistrate" form for when doing divorce work. Every attorney in the know objects to her hearing their client's case, especially if you have a female client.

I think Miller will be in.

Looks like many will run against the slated candidates on the D side. I think Dane Mahern will be added to this list and perhaps Jeff Marchal for a judge slot. I hope Jeff does. He should have been the slated candidate. Most happy to see Angela Davis on this list.

i hope miller and johnson both run.... the republicans were crooked for dumping those two. it shows slating at it's worse.

Every year that goes by the slating proceess becomes more meaningless for both parties. In the old days it was politcal suicide to buck the slate. Now it's considered the preferable way to go. Maybe that's best.

i think candidates have the opportunity to withdraw the candidacy sometime next week? i don't recall a date, but i think that's how it works...? i might be wrong though.

The last time I can recall a successful run against the Democratic Slate was in 1992 and that was damn difficult.

In a large metropolitan area its very difficult for a challenger in a top-tier county-wide race to quickly roust up a personal political organization and the large funds needed for a successful Slate challenge.

I believe the last date to withdraw from a race is noontime Monday.

The new challenger to Coroner Kenny Ackles is Dr. Frank Lloyd, Jr. with impeccable medical credentials. His father was no slouch at politics and his mother, Dr. Daisy Lloyd, was the first African-American woman ever elected to our Hoosier Legislature...

Dr. Lloyd is a solid individual, but if he's filed now, why couldn't the party leaderhsip find him before slating?

Mike O'Connor has to go. Yesterday. Letting Ackles's name be announced from that podium last Sat. was a crime.

"Dr." Ackles: get your resume ready. You're back to bone-crackin.

I think current judge Linda Brown ran against the slate and won in 2000, didn't she? With the number of spots, judge races are very different than other offices. The turnout could be huge on the D side if Clinton-obama is still alive and many who vote because of that might - esp. First time primary voters - be unlikely to care too much about the slate for local offices.

I beleive that Linda Brown ran against the slate since 1992...maybe in 2002? ...The "Brown Caucaus" effectively started the trend in the last few years for the D's of running against the slate...Why Ackles and Barton were ever allowed to run is beyond me....this also begs the question of what was wrong with Terry Curry in 2002 (Jim Osborne was creamed running against Brizzi) and why Steve Poore was not slated...but Garland Graves was after not having campaigned ever. Let's just kill the slating process and get back to being true democrats and just have an open primary.

The Lloyd's have always been republicans.

Anon 4:23 apeaks on issues and personalities that he/see knows nothing about....check after the filing deadline and see how muchof his inside knowledge actually happens. If Miller has chosed to stay here and talk to his committeepersons instead of going to Hawaii for two weeks then he might have been slated.
