Burton Missing In Action, Buyer Still On Medical Leave

Today's Star notes that U.S. Rep. Dan Burton (R) didn't show up for a single vote in the House of Representatives this week, missing 19 votes in total, including important votes on cutting the interest rate on student loans and repealing tax breaks for oil and gas companies. Oddly, Rep. Burton's office declined to comment on the reason Burton was absent from the votes.

Indiana's Rep. Steve Buyer (R) continued his streak of missing every single vote taken this year. He's been excused while he's recovering from knee surgery as a result of a holiday skiing accident. Buyer had the most absences of any other member of the Indiana delegation during the past session. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic to Buyer's injury, but I think I would make an effort to show up and vote, even if I had to so in a wheel chair. My father is 76 years old, and he's bounced back from hip replacement surgery and prostate cancer surgery in recent years much quicker than the much younger Buyer.

While Rep. Julia Carson (D) has had a lot of excused absences during her tenure in the House due to health problems, at least she's made the effort to show up and vote, even if it requires considerable assistance from her staff.

Burton could miss every vote for two years and he wouldn't be voted out from my district. That should be his motto: "I couldn't care less because what are y'all gonna do? Elect a Democrat? Haw haw haw." I mean, that whole "Indiana Dan" thing on his campaign webpage was pretty much the biggest I'm-here-till-I-retire-and-there's-no-way-to-get-rid-of-me move of the year.

Anyway, unless we hear a good excuse, we all pretty much know why he hasn't shown up to vote for stricter ethics rules, eliminating government welfare for oil companies, and an increased minimum wage.

Actually, I think the nation and the world are better off if Burton did miss every vote for the next two years. His constituents might be willing to live with him, but that doesn't mean the rest of us need to.

Dan, STAY HOME.

The Star never reported that Julia was being pushed around in a wheel chair, did they? No, of course not. Why would the the constiuents need to know that. The Star tips their hand (left) again.

B.S. Wilson, its ALWAYS about you and your opinion. Go play in traffic, jerk...

" Go play in traffic "? death wishes? The nutterballs certainly are getting violent in here! When you cant argue facts, bring up personalities and wish death on your opponents - typical fascists. Go and burn a cross somewhere, "joejackson" - it's more your style than blogging...

LOL Wilson...you certainly don't hesitate to drag others' personalities and personal/tax issues into an argument, when it fits your whim.

And as for Rep. Burton.....shhhhhhhhh.....be vewy vewy qwiet. Wascally wabbit he is...if we stay qwiet, he may not vote the rest of this session.
Consistent thinkers and civil liberatrians, among others would rejoice.

On the other hand, being absent would give him more personal time...and the attractive single ladies of DC and north Indy wouldn't be as safe.

I'm willing to give Buyer a pass...ortho injury and surgery recovery can take many wicked turns, including infection, swelling and other issues. Good for your dad, AI, but not everyone recovers the same.

Now, on to other more pressing issues:
