Perry Township Officials Charged

A special prosecutor has charged Perry Township Constable Roy Houchins and his former executive assistant, Michael Sherfick, on several charges of public corruption. Houchins is charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit theft and one count of corrupt business influence, and Sherfick is charged Friday with forgery, conspiracy to commit theft and corrupt business influence. The charges stem from a complaint that the two had conspired to present fake documents to the Indianapolis Police Department's property control room to obtain guns. There have also been allegations in the past that Houchin's office sold police badges, which the FBI had reportedly been investigating.
