It's Tony Stewart's Day

Tony Stewart won his second Allstate Brickyard 400. I went to the race today with a couple of friends. The endless number of yellow laps made for a long afternoon. The only interesting thing that happened where I was sitting in the Southwest Vista was when a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan sitting several rows below me decided to toss a full, 16-ounce can of Miller Lite onto the track when Dale made a green light pit stop. If the fan's goal was to bring out the yellow caution light, it didn't work. Cars zoomed past the can laying in the middle of the track for several laps until someone finally flattened it without incident. I had to laugh when Dale's engine blew on lap 136 near the end of the race while he was still running in 5th place. He finished 34th.

Sounds like you got the full NASCAR experience.

Yee-hah.

For an even better fan response, what if you and your (male?) friends had held hands walking to and from your seats?

Was that comment necessary.
I'd like to see the NASCAR crowd hang out at Black Expo.

I am glad Tony won as I am a fan of this bad boy! I went a few years ago but got tired of roasting like a potato in the stands and two of walked down to the Applebee's drank beer and watched the race there. I was new in town and didn't realize they shut down Allisonville Rd and my friends were very pissed when they had to swing by to get us.

I'd go if I could be in a suite, so I guess I won't be going anytime soon.

Go Tony! Meet you at the Dairy Queen in Columbus!

Anon 7:42, I actually saw two guys walking together with T-shirts, which read, "Jeff Gordon makes my nipples hard" and "Jeff Gordon makes me his bitch." People seem to find it humorous.

Gary - I really thought the last place you'd ever go is to the 400. But hey it's open to people of all walks of life.

BTW, there's a long running inside "story" about the sexuality of drivers Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. The timing of Jimmie Johnson becoming Jeff's teammate at the same time Jeff's former (trophy) wife filed for divorce added fuel to the fire, considering Johnson was a nobody driver until Gordon "discovered" him. There used to be T-shirts out that read Fans Against Gordon. With the letters F-A-G in very large print and a number 24 with a "no" sign over it. Both are married (to women - supermodels at that of course) and Jeff Gordon & his wife just had their first child - which led to comments among the anti-Jeff fans to ask "Who's the father?"

I was there today - up in the Paddock Penthouse, right at the start/finish line.

I have a bone to pick with the powers that be at IndyGo. Last year was a very smooth back and forth to Downtown, they changed it for the 500 and we stood in the rain for 45 minutes before boarding a bus. They didn't learn from that because this year was a joke again. But that's for another day.

A friend of mine met Tony Stewart in Richmond, VA a couple of months ago I think. He does something for the racetrack here and said he was a really cool guy.

Anyways, if you have a great local blog and if you ever need great freee content for it, come to thenewsroom.com and check us out!

I've been following NASCAR closely since it came to Indy. I was there for the inaugural race when Gordon took the first win and have been a big fan of his since then. I've actually learned from watching NASCAR that if there aren't a lot of fans booing you, then you probably ain't got much going for you. The driver who drew the loudest negative reaction at that inaurgural race was Dale Earnhardt, Sr. During an interview on Larry King about a year ago, Jeff Gordon related how Dale, Sr. came up to him one day and asked him if it were true he was a homosexual. Gordon just laughed it off, and he said he and Dale got along just fine from that point on.

Likely what would have happened to me had I walked downtown Sat. during Black Expo with a rebel flag T-Shirt.
