BMV Woes Means No August Payment To Counties

Just when you thought the BMV computer fiasco couldn't get worse, it just did. State Auditor Connie Nass (R) tells WISH-TV that her office will not be able to disburse to the state's counties their share of excise taxes collected by the BMV because the BMV didn't remit the funds in time for the August payment. As a consequence, counties will have to wait until September to get their August excise tax payment, which amounts to $5.5 million. Nass tells WISH-TV that counties may have to borrow from other funds in the interim to meet the unexpected shortfall. Counties have already been losing money from this source of revenue due to declining vehicle registrations according to Nass.
