IMPD Shakeup

Mayor Greg Ballard is shaking up the leadership of IMPD that he appointed after assuming control of IMPD in 2008 from Sheriff Frank Anderson. WTHR is reporting that Chief Michael Spears is out as chief and will be replaced by Maj. Paul Ciesielski. Despite a promise to clean up the department, IMPD has been plagued by internal scandals during the Ballard administration. More recently, a high-ranking officer, Lincoln Plowman, also a member of the City-County Council, was suspended by the department after he refused to answer questions posed to him by FBI agents.

Another old boys club chief... I thought Straub should have and would have appointed someone from the outside.

Interestingly, this story is not on the indystar website as of this posting but it is here. What passes for news these days is a joke.

Frank was never a hands on guy. He was always a money bunny. The only significant thing he did was nothing. He didn't shoot Dixon. That's to his credit of course. But after a while doing nothing and not paying attention catches up with you.

Is there any insight out there as to how many of the problem officers were hired or promoted under the previous (Peterson/Anderson) administration?

Just curious as to whether stuff is getting revealed and sorted out under Ballard (which always looks bad on the current guy unfortunately) or whether all of this started and was created under his administration.

Not taking a side, just curious as to what the facts are because I've not really followed some of these scandals, their history, timelines and roots and like to be fair before taking a critical position.

Got to admit I am a little disappointed with the coverage on this blog lately. You broke the story of shady dealings by Bales months ago, and I haven't heard one word on here about Fox59s story the other night. Hope you are feeling better-we need you on this!

You have a lot of nerve, Jason. I do the work on this blog pro bono. Have you ever made a contribution? I didn't think so. I've been extremely ill for the past three weeks and excuse me if it inconveniences you that my health has interfered with blogging.

Give Gary a break, I am surprised he has not been hospitalized for as sick as he's been. For those of you who enjoy his blog keep in mind how much time he spends on this and consider making a paypal contribution as you need to realize this is billing time he has reallocated to cleaning up Indiana.

Here's something interesting on Securatex from Diana Vice:

Was Gary the victim of a bioattack by the Indiana GOP?

It is very unfortunate to see you ill, Mr. Welsh. Perhaps concerning yourself in delicate and serious matterz that do not concern you is not good for your health, no?

Get well, Mr. Welsh. I suspect the illness has run its course. Turn your thoughts to more happy things, and you may find your health improvez.

Sorry, didn't see this until now.

I should have phrased it better. I was looking more for some recognition by you that the story you worked so hard on was finally caught by the mainstream media.

Gee, Cato, should I be contacting the FBI to investigate your claim?

Gary,

Cato is either a thug who has criminally threatened you or a certain ex military brat reincarnerated as a Middle-Eastern American who purports to be an unbiased talk show host/blogger.
