Bradford Says I'm Moving On Up

Marion Co. Republicans wants to promote the anti-gay bigoted city-county councilor Jim Bradford. The party has slated Bradford to run for Washington Township Trustee, a position which would be eliminated if the Mayor gets the merger approval he needs for his Indy Works plan.

The Star reports, "The outspoken council member, who owns the Whistle Stop restaurant along the Monon Trail in Broad Ripple, said his motivation stems from the city's decision to remove the fire engine from the Broad Ripple fire station." "I felt like there wasn't any recourse for the citizens I represent," Bradford said. "It's not fair for an area that has seen its taxes double and triple to get less services."

Of course, when you vote against everything that comes before the council as does Bradford, you can't expect to bring much home to the folks in your council district. Bradford twice voted against the HRO and was one of its most outspoken opponents. He told GOP councilors Scott Keller and Lance Langsford that they should leave the party after they voted for the HRO and the law enforcement merger ordinance late last year.

Advance Indiana is hearing that the Marion Co. GOP is desparately seeking an openly gay Republican to run for a township office in Center Township to soften its image with the GLBT community. This effort seems somewhat disingenuous after the party devoted so much effort last year to defeating the HRO.

The Star reports that city-county councilor Lynn McWhirter, who also voted against the HRO both times, is running for Wayne Township Trustee, a position her father held for four terms.

City-county councilor Greg Bowes, who twice voted for the HRO and sponsored it, is seeking the Marion County Assessor's position on the Democratic side.

You know, this is one of the tidbits of information that I would have skimmed over in the Star without it registering what it meant in the context of the HRO in the past, Gary. I'm so glad for your blog.
