Marion County Republicans Send Out Hit Piece Against Sandlin On Behalf Of Shreve

Per their standard operating procedure, the Marion County Republican Party reserves its harshest and nastiest attacks for life-long Republicans who refuse to be led around like blind mice by their corrupt leadership. The party sent out the first negative direct mail piece to Republican voters in the District 36 state senate race against life-long Republican and City-County Council member Jack Sandlin, who is running in the primary against the party's anointed candidate, Jefferson Shreve, a liberal Democrat and major Democratic Party donor who moved up to Indianapolis from Bloomington a few years ago and bought a seat on the council from the Marion County Republican Party.

The negative mail piece accuses Sandlin of being a "career politician" with "a history of nepotism and conflicts of interest." "I'm outraged at how far the Downtown Republican establishment will go to protect their power and preserve their ability to continue spending taxpayer money," Sandlin said in a press release in response to the attack. "The recent mailer against my campaign was a blatant attempt to create false impressions among the voting public - and it was especially mean-spirited in attacking my wife."

A retired Indianapolis police officer with decades of service as a public safety worker, Sandlin took strong exception to being called a "career politician." "Nothing could be further from the truth," Sandlin states. "I've been a career law enforcement officer, having spent more than 20 years with the Indianapolis Police Department and another 14 years as a part-time officer in the Southport Police Department. In addition, I've spent the past 21 years running my own business, which provides fraud examination, private investigation and security consulting. "When you contrast my decades spent in law enforcement and security with my part-time positions as Perry Township Trustee and Indianapolis City-County Councillor, it becomes very clear that calling me a 'career politician' is just a flat-out lie," Sandlin adds.

Sandlin was equally as offended at accusations he engaged in a conflict of interest. The ad accused him of using his influence as elected official to help his wife win a contract. "That's just offensive to me," he says. "In my law-enforcement career, as well as my elected positions, I've always been a true public servant. I work hard for the people I represent in their best interests, oftentimes in opposition of the political insiders and their personal self interests."

Sandlin pulled no punches in his denouncing leaders of the Marion County Republican Party. "I always vote my conscience. I always speak my mind. From my experience, Republican Party Chairman Jennifer Ping and Vice-Chairman Mike McQuillen don't like to be challenged, even when the best interests of the community are at stake. They prefer to handpick their candidates, as they did with my opponent in this race. Negative attacks are the only way they can hope to control our elections and our government," Sandlin adds.

Advance Indiana readers will recall how the party last year sent out numerous mailers prior to the municipal primary election attacking incumbent City-County Councilor Christine Scales in an effort to defeat her and elect a challenger it anointed to run against her, Tim Craft, who worked for a real estate brokerage firm with a crony relationship with former Mayor Greg Ballard's administration. Nobody has engaged in more acts of public corruption and dishonesty than the leadership of the local party, which has been nothing more than a racketeering operation selling public contracts awarded by city-county government. The county's current party chairman, Jennifer Ping, is actually controlled by the same law firm that invested heavily in putting one of its own attorneys, Democrat Joe Hogsett, in the mayor's office last year.

Candidates who lower themselves by using lies to attack their opponent show voters several things. One-they have no confidence in their own worthiness as a candidate. Two-they are not a worthy candidate. Three-it reveals a lack of character and lack of moral principles. Three-it shouts to all that they will do ANYTHING, sell their souls, sell out those whom they represent, all to climb their personal ladder of ambition. It's a disappointment to those of us who thought Shreve to be a nice guy and decent fellow. He should be ashamed of himself. Anyone who believes this guy is their friend, needs to be on guard. It's obvious Shreve will stoop to anything if it's in his interest.

So, he is scum. Is that so hard to say and understand? Wife was talking about Hamilton, the play on Broadway. She says that campaigns back in the day were pretty hard core. Yes, but the difference was in those days there was honor and an effective means of dealing with dishonorable people. You shot them dead. If we had a contest in Marion County to name any Republicans in the party structure or hirelings of same could we find anyone with an unassailable claim to be honorable? Would Diogenes need an oil tanker to fuel his light? People ought to know the names of people considered to be honorable by their peers.

I don't get why the friends of Ping, the friends of McQuillen, the wife and friends of Shreve don't take these folks to task for their actions. Why don't grass roots Republicans tell these people that it's despicable that they are sending out attack ads against one of their own and it won't be tolerated?
Why don't Republicans who call themselves Christians take a stand and speak out about how unacceptable and offensive this is to them? Sliminess is not becoming in those who accept leadership positions.

7:04 does not get it because, no doubt, 7:04 has never spent time as an insider thinking they are participating in Marion County GOP politics.

Here's the nasty truth, 7:04... the Marion County GOP is so tightly controlled by crony, corrupt attorneys [you know, the people who are sworn to uphold the law- not bastardize and prostitute it] and monied interests and corrupt, egomaniacal politicians that there is NO WAY any honest "R" can effect change. Indianapolis has the very best judges money can buy and some day people will wake up and realize the judge they stood before was probably bought and paid for.

Anyone who knows Jennifer Ping knows she is a total tool and a brown-noser to boot. Anyone who knows Jefferson Shreve, and the way he came into the south side, would definitely employ the words "dishonest" and Democrat. Think Jeff Miller.

And the friends Ping, Shreve, and that fop McQuillen might have are not going to "take them to task" (what a bizarre thing to say, btw) because those "friends" will be a mirrors of the career self-interested politicos aforementioned. Decent, ethical, and moral people would never associate with the likes of Ping, Shreve, McQuillen, et al.

All the above (and more) are reasons the grassroots voted with their feet and stampeded away. David Brooks got tens of thousands of dollars in bloated law firm fees, got his fake-sugar Ft. Wayne country gal engineered elected, helped elevate Vaughn to huge salaried positions, and Jennifer Hallowell Walker (you know, the marriage partner who really brought home the bacon from a corrupt pig) enabled a crook like Ballard to plunder Indianapolis while she wheelbarrowed stacks to her bank account. The Marion County GOP is now hollowed out just as is Marion County.

The Marion County GOP and the Indiana Republican Party are so corrupt, so full of themselves, so evil that the only way it can be rehabilitated is with napalm. And why the hell a man as intelligent as Mark Levin lionizes that wooden idiot Mike Pence as a "true conservative and constitutionalist" is just beyond any rhyme or reason.

  5. Liberals like DB took control of a broken down hulk known as the Marion County GOP after the Sweezy and Murphy chairmanships and now owns it lock stock and barrel. He controls the mummy dummy appointments. He owns the last three chairpersons. Anyone who dares to oppose the RINO will be crucified from within. I have to laugh at the google ads on here that portray Shreve as a "conservative" what a joke. It's like the Tucker-Quayle family working with Mitch McConnel to put lipstick on that Todd Young pig. What a joke.

Sandlin is a prick and everyone knows it, but when it comes to spending he is a true conservative. Take the good with the bad!

YES, Sir Hailstone 10:30. YES. Why DB [and so many other local and state GOP] is not under federal indictment... well, it's who you know, the favors you've done behind the scenes...what you've been able to legally cover up. The law? That's for the little people.

Your phrase "owns them lock, stock, and barrel" could not be more accurate. What self-respecting, moral, ethical, decent person would allow himself or herself to be used by the likes of a temperament and deviousness of DB?

I guess a paycheck, a small fiefdom, and a little bit of tin horn glory go a long way for small people.

Many are surprised that the GOP would turn on Jack Sandlin. This long-time politician supported the party line in each and every way and even helped force Scales from its caucus. Why did he all of a sudden get religion and become independent of the GOP corruption? What are we missing?

Jennifer Ping and her merry band of Pingsters have stepped right into a big pile of shit, spending over $50,000 of the parties money to take out a fellow Republican. Nothing has changed, Its all about Hammond and Ping..they sucked every penny out of Marion county, including Chuck Brewer. Now they have a new Suger daddy, Jefferson Shreve. This guy is one despicable person. Ping better hope her little boy toy wins, otherwise her hasty hooker red lipstick and 1976 haircut will be toast.Ping knows that this race is for the soul of the party ,they are attacking a Christian conservative..good luck at easing anymore many Pingsters! Why aren't the good guys like Senator Merrit calling for her to step down? Shame on him for allowing this to happen...or is he behind the whole thing? He was seen at all of the Shreve Fundraisers and is the BFF of Ping and Hammond.......

Not sure what 7:19 GMT-5 means by Jack Sandlin all of a sudden getting religion. I have gone to church with him for decades. He's always there and is involved in many activities. I personally know him to be very generous with his resources and time in church and community causes. Maybe he just got tired of the way they were doing things at the Marion County Republican Headquarters.

Anon 8:56, regarding Sandlin being a Christian, he knows the words but not the music.

Regarding politics, he carried dirty water for the GOP establishment for all the years he was on the City Council. What happened to cause him to become "independent" and "conservative"? The only thing many of us can think of is that the city government went to the Democrats.

  16. I don't know the dollar amount of the contract, but I believe he has disclosed on his financial disclosure statement that he has a contract with the Marion Co. Prosecutor's office, which the last I checked is occupied by a Democrat.

  17. Anonymous5:27 PM EST

I believe Sandlin lost that contract. Ask him.

anon 5:27, Sandlin may have lost that contract; but, he still receives a check every month from the City of Indianapolis. Mr. Welsh may be less than neutral because he is receiving advertising revenue from Sandlin.

  19. Sorry, anon. 1:01. I have never been paid money by any political candidate to advertise on this site. The Google ads that appear on this site are placed independently by campaigns directly with Google. Jefferson Shreve has actually run numerous ads on my site using Google. I've not seen any ad for Sandlin appear on the site yet. Advance Indiana receives revenue-sharing crumbs from Google from the ad placement revenues it collects from third parties it runs on this site with my permission.
