To believe Marion Co. Prosecutor Terry Curry, it is perfectly legal for state elected officials and their staff to use state resources and state time to perform purely political work, including campaign fundraising. In the past, these activities have ALWAYS been charged as crimes like ghost employment, theft or official misconduct. That's not going to be the case as long as Terry "I See Nothing" Curry is prosecutor. The state's former inspector general, David Thomas, just wasted his time thinking either our useless federal or state prosecutor would do anything about the crimes his investigation of Bennett's office documented. Here's the laughable statement the do-nothing prosecutor released, attributing "rumor and innuendo" to suggestions Bennett and members of his staff broke criminal laws:
Our office was provided with the Indiana Office of the Inspector General's investigation of former Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett related to allegations of improper use of state resources, a quid pro quo for a change of letter grade for an Indiana school, and ghost employment. A thorough review of the materials, including hundreds of documents and thousands of emails, was conducted. In addition, some individuals previously interviewed by the Inspector General's Office were re-interviewed by investigators from the Marion County Prosecutor's Office Grand Jury Division. No evidence was presented to justify criminal charges, and prosecution on each of these issues is declined. I would note that submission of the same Inspector General materials to the U.S. Attorney's Office likewise did not result in any Federal criminal charges.
“This matter has been the subject of significant rumor and innuendo. However, the conduct in question has been appropriately addressed as ethical violations, resulting in sanctions against Mr. Bennett by the State Ethics Commission.”
As with any case where criminal charges are declined, investigative files remain confidential.
This is what I believe. For the first time in anyone's memory, the Marion Count Republican Party did not seriously contest the race for Marion Co. Prosecutor in 2014. It refused to raise any money for the Republican candidate, who spent less money than any Republican county-wide candidate for that office in decades. That was no coincidence. The only plausible explanation for Curry's refusal to investigate public corruption cases happening in plain sight on his watch is that he cut a deal with Republican leaders to ignore their corruption in exchange for a pass in his re-election campaign last year. The only alternative explanation is that he is a bumbling incompetent unfit to hold the office. To believe Curry, you have to believe that both former Clerk of the Courts Dwayne Brown and former Education Supt. Harold Negley were prosecuted for crimes they never committed.
...with a nod, a wink, and a pat on the back it all goes away. "There's nothing to see here, Taxpayers, you just don't 'understand.'"
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gary, for printing the truth about Terry Curry... "...he is a bumbling incompetent unfit to hold the office." If breathing were not autonomic I swear the guy would asphyxiate himself.
ReplyDeleteI am a Republican who, out of desperation and disgust with the CORRUPT David Brooks/Samantha DeWester/Bob Grand/Brian "Ersal Owns Me" Bosma/corrupt persons ad nauseam, cast votes for Democrats Terry Curry, Zach Adamson, Mary Moriarty Adams, Melina Kennedy, John Barth. Every damn one of those Democrats proved to be utter disappointments and every bit as corrupt and dishonest as the RINO "R's" and in a couple of individuals' cases more damned ignorant. Can you say "Angie's List" and digital billboard campaign payola???
But Terry Curry... Terry Curry is a special kind of incompetent... is THIS what law schools are turning out? Is it any wonder persons like me have absolutely no respect for the law profession??? Geez....... Terry Curry is the Marion County Democrat Party's Jimmy Carter in spades... the Commandant Klink of the legal system who hears nothing, certainly knows nothing and what he says isn't worth repeating. "Curry Must Go!"... there's a lawn sign campaign there somewhere....
To the lawyers out there - does law school curriculum typically include courses on how to lie, cheat, steal, and do whatever it takes to advance your own self interests at the expense of everyone else? Why is it so many political types we all despise so much are lawyers?
ReplyDeleteTerry Curry and Tony Bennett are slime who need to be doing time! I have talked with democrats all over the state who are furious that Curry and Hogsett won't go after Bennett! Also someone needs to look into Todd Rokita having used his position as SOS to get his congressional seat! Burn in shell! Curry, Daniels, Hogsett!
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:39 - Ever take a course by "Old Blue-Hair", Sheila Suess Kennedy? -I think that may be what you're looking for.
ReplyDeleteNow that this is small legal matter is behind him, Tony Bennett is going to work for Gov. Pence. He will be appointed to the Dept. of Education and become the de facto Superintendent of Education. Ritz needs her wings clipped and Tony is the person to keep her attention in education and not run against Pence. Thank you very much. Bennett is very smart and knows education like few others.
ReplyDelete@ 8:37 Tony Bennett is that you? Listen you cheeseball! If anybody's wings need to be clipped it is yours! If you even so much as think of returning to public life we the Sons of Liberty will hound you so bad you will long for prison! Your time is over! Now shoo fly away and take all you scumbag friends with you!
ReplyDeleteTo Anon @939PM: The problem isn't necessarily the people who become lawyers (like me) but government itself. There is no reason to complain about two contract lawyers negotiating a mutually beneficial agreement voluntarily between two consenting parties. Government is force and coercion which leads to corruption, both systemically and in the hearts and souls of those acting within the construct. The devil (lowercase) is not in the details of a contract; the actual Devil (uppercase) works his magic especially through government. Hate the State and all her evil works.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it did MCRCC spend any money on any county candidate in 2014? The Dems only seemed worried about John Layton judging by the TV ad time purchased. Walker & Co seemed to give all the Dems a pass in 2014.
ReplyDeleteTerry Curry cannot possibly do anything with Bennett, because that would be like throwing stones at your own house. Both parties in Marion County are so corrupt, there is no way prosecution could occur.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Terry's incompetents, well the Democrats had a great chance to put a real attorney in this office but chose not to due to politics.
But hey he got Brissard right?? lol what a joke.
