Nate Montana Among Notre Dame Athletes Busted For Under-Age Drinking

A slew of Notre Dame athletes, including second-string quarterback Nate Montana, the son of quarterback great Joe Montana, were arrested for under-age drinking at a party in South Bend last night. Eight football players, two men's basketball players and nine hockey players were among 42 arrest for minor consumption at the off-campus party according to the South Bend Tribune. Here's what the newspaper is reporting on last night's arrests:

Forty-four people in all were arrested on alcohol-related charges at an off-campus party. Of the 44 people arrested, 42 are charged with minor consumption and two are charged with providing alcohol to minors.


Those arrested included junior quarterback Nate Montana, junior linebacker Steve Filer, sophomore kicker Nick Tausch, sophomore offensive guard Chris Watt, sophomore receiver Robby Toma, freshman receiver Tai-ler Jones, freshman cornerback Lo Wood and freshman offensive lineman Tate Nichols.

Also arrested were men's basketball players Tim Abromaitis - the team's second-leading scorer - and Eric Atkins, an incoming freshman point guard.

Nine Notre Dame hockey players were also arrested, including Jared Beers, Jeff Costello, David Gerths, Joe Lavin, Anders Lee, Joe Rogers, Steven Summerhays, Shayne Taker and Mike Voran.
An athletic department spokesperson said that men's basketball coach Mike Brey and hockey coach Jeff Jackson are aware of the arrests and that both coaches would handle the matter internally.
