Labor Nominee's Husband A Tax Scofflaw

President Barack Obama's nominee to head the Department of Labor, U.S. Rep. Hilda Solis, has a husband who had unpaid tax liens dating back 16 years, which were not settled until yesterday, one day before her scheduled confirmation hearing. The White House seems to show little concern for the problem because the taxes were owed by the business of her husband and not by her personally, even though the Senate Labor Committee abruptly cancelled a hearing scheduled today in light of this new revelation. It is particularly outrageous that she has been serving in Congress all this time without her husband clearing up these old tax liabilities. She served in the California legislature for nearly a decade before being elected to Congress in 2000.
