Sen. Glenn Howard Also Hospitalized With Unexplained Illness
Almost missing in today's news that Sen. David Ford (R-Hartford City) is listed in critical condition in a Fort Wayne hospital with an unexplained illness is a brief mention in the Star's online edition today reporting that Sen. Glenn Howard (D-Indianapolis) is also hospitalized with an illness. According to the Star, Sen. Howard has missed the entire legislative session to date. "The family really has not informed me, other than that he is in the hospital," [Sen. Richard] Young said. " I don't know what the illness is, and they have been very quiet about it. I do not know when he would return, but I hope it's shortly." The report says messages left by the Star at Howard's home were not returned. Young told the Star that Howard filled out paperwork which allows him to continue to receive his pay, notwithstanding his absence. Well wishes to Sen. Howard as well.

On a side note, Wilson's favorite ex-President fell asleep during a service at a New York City church honoring Dr. Martin Luther King. The Clinton's have proudly preached their support of African Americans and Bill clearly shows here how important those issues are to him!

A sleepy Bill Clinton is vastly more beloved by African-Americans than a wide-awake George W. Bush...
Which reminds me: which prominent African-American church did George W. Bush attend to honor Dr. King?
Of course, as Congressman, Dick Cheney voted against making the national holiday for Dr. King. Shows what respect he had for MLK!
Gary, can you please patrol your blog? It's swerving into silliness.
Sen. Howard is likely entitled to some sick pay, but...he owes his constituents an explanation soon. There's a fine line between elected officials' sick leave and resignation. Lately, it's been badly abused.
Or will he follow the path of the late Congresswoman, and mislead folks about his ability to serve for a long time?
Good wishes to Glenn, but...he'll never, ever miss an opportunity to pick up a buck.
Here we go again ...prying into a person's private medical records....have you no shame? have you no human decency? What makes you think you have any right to know this info? Anyone who knows Senator Howard knows that if he were well that he would be at the session.
I hope Sen. Howard recovers soon. He is one of the most entertaining characters in the Statehouse -- I'm sure he has been missed!
Well, anon 8:21, I'd have no problem if his office released that he was out ill and whether or not he planned to return to session. With Howard out and Carson's irresponsibility, I'm feeling pretty unrepresented in my district these days.
Hey 8:21...I don't need to know every gory detail of any elected officials medical situation, but I do believe that elected officials owe at least a general explanation of their status to the public. If one doesn't want inquiries into one's medical status one can put an end to those inquiries by leaving public life. You stop being a private citizen when you become a public official. If you don't like the scrutiny then get another job.
Sen. Howard represents my district. I've heard from someone that his condition may not allow him to return to the Senate the rest of the session, but that's just speculation. I think his family owes it to his constituents to tell us if he is going to be able to return to vote on any of the important issues coming up over the next several weeks.
Hmmm ... Senator Howard is up for re-election this year.
Might that be why he's so silent about his condition? Carson-syndrome on the state senate level?
anon 9:23 you know that he is in the hospital ...there is no reason on earth why you need to know what his medical problem is......he is not playing golf in Palm Springs or Florida like Danny Burton who is probably one of your heroes.....
Sen. Howard has Alzheimer's very bad. I would like to know who signed the papers Sen. Young references in the Star. I don't believe he could have done it under his own volition. People should be asking questions. They wouldn't ask them with Julia Carson so it is unlikely they will ask them in Glenn Howard's case.
I encountered Senator Glenn Howard somewhere in public recently - I chitchatted with him briefly and he displayed no signs of Alzheimer's but he did seem somewhat surprisingly gaunt ... he was always a tad pudgy and a little weight-loss didnt seem a bad thing for his health.
Wilson, Please grow a set and respond to me regarding this after you do your research. The source is listed at the bottom. Time for you to realize that Clinton was a "war monger", just like you call G.W.B.
These are some rather eye-opening facts.
Since the start of the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, the sacrifice has been enormous. In the time period from the invasion of Iraq in March 2003, through today, we have lost over 3,000 military personnel to enemy action and accidents.
As tragic as the loss of any member of the US Armed Forces is, consider the following statistics: The annual fatalities of military members while actively serving in the armed forces from 1980 through 2006:
1980 ....... 2,392
1981 ........ 2,380
1984 ........... 1,999
1988 ........... 1,819
1989 ........... 1,636
1990 ........ 1,508
1991 .......... 1,787
1992 ........... 1,293
*1993 ........ 1,213
*1994 ...... 1,075
*1995 ........2,465
*1996 ..... 2,318 *Clinton years @14,000 deaths
*1997 ........ 817
*1998 ... 2,252
*1999 .... 1,984
*2000 ..... 1,983
2001 ........ 890
2002 .... 1,007
2003 ...... 1,410
2004 ...... 1,887
2005 .. 919
2006...... 920 Bush years (2001-2006): 7,033 deaths
If you are confused when you look at these figures, so was I.
Do these figures mean that the loss from the two latest conflicts in the Middle East are LESS than the loss of military personnel during Mr. Clinton's presidency; when America wasn't even involved in a war? And, I was even more confused; when I read that in 1980, during the reign of President (Nobel Peace Prize winner) Jimmy Carter, there were 2,392 US military fatalities!
These figures indicate that many members of our Media and our Politicians will pick and choose. They present only those "facts" which support their agenda-driven reporting. Why do so many of them march in lock-step to twist the truth? Where do so many of them get their marching-orders for their agenda?
Our Mainstream Print and TV media, and many Politicians like to slant; that these brave men and women, who are losing their lives in Iraq, are mostly minorities! Wrong AGAIN ?" just one more media lie!
The latest census, of Americans, shows the following distribution of American citizens, by Race:
European descent (White) ........ 69.12%
Hispanic ...... 12.5%
Black............ 12.3%
Asian ........... 3.7%
Native American.....1.0%
Other ............. 2.6%
Now... here are the fatalities by Race; over the past three years in Iraqi Freedom:
European descent (white) ................... 74.31%
Hispanic ................ 10.74%
Black ............... 9.67%
Asian ................. 1.81%
Native American ..........1.09%
Other .....................0.33%
You do the Math! These figures don't lie, but, Media-liars figure and they sway public opinion !
(These statistics are published by Congressional Research Service, and they may be confirmed by anyone at: http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/RL32492.pdf
suffering from "p.S.w."?
Pea shake withdrawl?,
you also said that Julia was never drunk, Wilson. You are a dellusional little man.
Where in the world and when did you bump into Glenn, Wilson? THis isn't a "Where's Waldo" contest--an elected senator hasn't been seen in public in months.
I can top your"observation." A good friend talked to him over Thanksgiving, and Glenn didn't know where he was. He kept talkiing about a car he bought in 1965. Remind you of something? Say, a little girl who sat on someone's lap?
Beat that.
The pudgy observation was a little out of line too. We could observe that you look nicotene-infested and pasty.
If Glenn cannot serve, he should resign. I don't need to know the gory details. But a reasonable sick leave turns into chronic absence, and his constituents need to know. The salary form signature thing is just a hoot. Someone committed fraud there.
