Musical Chairs Play Planned In Public Safety When Hogsett Becomes Mayor

Advance Indiana hears that Indianapolis Democratic mayoral candidate Joe Hogsett plans to name Marion Co. Sheriff John Layton as his public safety director when he becomes mayor next year. U.S. Marshal Kerry Forestal, formerly of the Marion Co. Sheriff's Department, is considered a front-runner to be tapped by Democrats to fill the unexpired term of Sheriff Layton. Advance Indiana readers will recall that Sheriff Layton's predecessor, Frank Anderson, stepped down as U.S. Marshal to run for Marion County Sheriff as well. There are also rumblings that Hogsett may look to shift some current Marion County sheriff's deputies to IMPD as part of his plan to hire 150 additional police officers.

UPDATE: The Indianapolis Firefighters local PAC endorsed Hogsett today.

"Musical chairs" is a completely apt description; I am instantly reminded of the Titanic. How sad to see that Lying Joe Hogestt can not come up with fresh ideas, is unable to look to fresh faces, and can not provide any originality this City so sorely needs. So, I guess all we can expect when Lying Joe Hogsett becomes mayor is more ofr the same we've already had.

I think of Lying Joe's opponent as Chuck "Choo-Choo Caboose" Brewer because he is
nothing more than the Marion County insider-selected GOP rail car who promises to continue the [corrupt] politics and [law breaking] policies of the train wreck we call Greg Ballard.

Lying Joe seems to be a meme that we will have for a long time.

Not sure how he will be able to switch over deputies from MCSO to IMPD, they are not state certified police officers. Their academy is "certified" by a law enforcement body, but ILEA does not recognize their academy and will not sign off on its certification. Really not sure how they get away with running around the county in their shiny new Chargers, making traffic stops and arrests when not on property they are statutorily responsible for. That goes for their part time jobs too. They work at stores and are making arrests when they have no law enforcement authority. They gave it up for the merger.

When IMPD starts taking orders from the Sheriff's folks, and when the Sheriff's deputies becomes the big dogs at IMPD, will we see IMPD move to separate the departments?

The same insider sources are naming MCSD High Commander Bill Benjamin as the new IMPD Chief under Mayor Hogsett. Abdul better get ready to blow the dust off IndyUndercover.com I have a feeling there will be much to blog about should all of these changes take place. Also, look for MCSD to take back their old patrol area. Lord knows they have the cars, motorcycles and SWAT vehicles to do the job. Everything old is new again!

Appointing Layton would be a serious blunder. And the Sheriff cannot lawfully employ police officers per state law, only special deputies. As special deputies, they are political cronies, friends, or those with connections.... Putting them in the mix with the real police would take policing back to the 1970's.

Consolidation all over again this time by the Democrats. Marion County open your wallets so those who perceived they were on the outside last time can attempt to get what they feel they deserve at our expense
