A couple of former Indiana State GOP Chairmen are upsetting the coronation of another former state party chairman as the establishment's choice to take retiring U.S. Sen. Dan Coats' seat next year. Al Hubbard and Jim Kittle, Jr. sent a joint letter soliciting the entry of U.S. Rep. Todd Young into the race. Eric Holcomb, a former state party chairman and former campaign manager for Mitch Daniels' second gubernatorial campaign, appeared to enjoy wide support among establishment Republican leaders prior to this move by Hubbard and Kittle to drum up support for Young. U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman also previously announced his decision to enter the race.
Hubbard and Kittle tell their fellow Republicans they believe Young is "a proven leader" who "would be the best candidate because he's not shied away from making tough decisions during his time in office." "It's clear Republican primary voters will have a quality field to choose in next year's election," the two wrote. "However, one particular candidate stands out: Congressman Todd Young." Young has not yet committed to running for the Senate seat, although that decision is expected to come soon. Young defeated former U.S. Rep. Baron Hill (D) to win the 9th congressional district. Hill has thrown his hat into the ring to run for next year's Senate seat on the Democratic ticket.
Al Hubbard and Jim Kittle, Jr. are Dick Lugar Republicans. (R-I-N-O)
ReplyDeleteIt should be noted that Todd Young is married into the Tucker-Quayle family.
ReplyDeleteI'd like some documentation on "tough decisions"......"chicken salad, or egg salad, Mr. Young??" Intramural party squabbles don't count.
ReplyDeleteIf Al Hubbard and Jim Kittle are for it, I am dead set against it.
ReplyDeleteThose two RINO establishment "R's" have done enough damage to the Conservative cause from what I've seen at the State GOP meetings/dinners/conventions... these are two of the most crony insiders the Indiana GOP can well do without.
