Deputy Mayor Olgen Williams To Run For Mayor

Now there are three candidates who plan to seek the Republican nomination for mayor. Radio talk show host Amos Brown says he has confirmed Deputy Mayor Olgen Williams will run for the Republican nomination without the blessings of his boss, Mayor Greg Ballard. The Marion Co. GOP claims to have a self-financed candidate it plans to anoint in an announcement later this week as its candidate. Williams, a convicted felon pardoned by former President George W. Bush, joins Jocelyn-Tandy Adande and Terry Michael, both of whom have already filed to run in the Republican primary for mayor.

UPDATE: There are news reports that Rev. Charles Harrison is backing away from running for mayor with the entry of Williams into the race; however, there is nothing preventing Harrison from entering the race following the primary as an independent candidate. It has been rumored that Harrison might run as a Libertarian. If the Republicans have another candidate they intend to slate at their slating convention later this month, that candidate would be the odds-on-favorite to win the primary election, particularly against a candidate like Williams who supported incumbent Democratic Mayor Bart Peterson's re-election in 2007 before his appointment as a deputy mayor in the Ballard administration, and whose ties to the Republican Party are pretty thin and short-lived.

Olgen Williams is a convicted felon. But, many in your audience bet that many (most?) of the GOP city councilors (except Ms. Scales) could become convicted felons if only the FBI would dig deep enough. Federal investigators would need to look no further than those that stonewalled the ROC investigation.
Gary, what were their names again?

  4. All fall short. A culture of possibility & success is one of redemption. Deputy Mayor Williams accepted the judgement of peers & paid his debt in full; meaning it's cancelled, except as a counterfeit currency of bigotry...

Upon what platform of piety does the "ideal" candidate stand, unburdened by any need for redemption?

Judge Deputy Mayor Williams on his platform & record of service; military, pastoral & public.

The downtown mafia sees "convicted felon" and thinks "for sale". Probably more likely to play their game as long as there's something in it for him too. Despite his past he could be less of a liability for the elitists than an unknown candidate with a strong moral compass. Toss him some campaign capital and see where it leads.

Anon 10:59 You speak the truth but do not glide over the fact that there are several Democrat Councilors who, with an FBI investigation, could be convicted felons as well. Christine Scales is the sole shining light of integrity in the swamp we call the Indianapolis City Council.

“Olgen Williams is a convicted felon.” That is a fact not in dispute. And nothing was said about Olgen by Anon 10:59 that was negative and no reference was made to his race. Maybe Pete Boggs and Anon 1:26 are the true racists displaying their prejudice today on MLK day.

Anon 1:26 throws out the race card...along with that imagery of that famous hat Julia Carson wore. Ignorant people externalize their own failures by blaming race.

IMO, the problem with the local GOP Party is they think they can tell the voters who they think should be in a particular office and the voters are to follow blindly. It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. In the past when grassroot GOP candidates have the support of the people the local party turns their back on them.

And we say Township government is screwed up.

Has Indianapolis become so sad that a convicted felon may run for Mayor?
