First Round Of Balloting In GOP's State Treasurer's Race Extremely Tight, Seybold On Top

Nearly 1,500 delegates to the Indiana GOP convention in Fort Wayne today split their votes nearly evenly among the three candidates vying to become the party's nominee for state treasurer with only 62 votes separating the top vote-getter, Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold and third-place finisher businessman Don Bates. Seybold garnered just seven votes more than Kelly Mitchell, a state treasurer's office employee backed by the current occupant of that office, Richard Mourdock. The voting split as follows:

In other news, the media flacks masquerading as objective journalists are attacking Richard Mourdock for his spot-on observations about American's march towards a Nazi-styled government. Here's what he said. Ask yourself if you can honestly disagree with his comments:

The people of Germany in a free election selected the Nazi party because they made great promises that appealed to them because they were desperate and destitute. And why is that? Because Germany was bankrupt. The truth is, 70 years later, we are drifting on the tides toward another beachhead and it is the bankruptcy of the United States of America.”

“Over the next several years, every time a program began to fall apart, Mr. Hitler’s party was very, very good at dividing Germany by pointing to this group or that group. First they went after their political opponents. Then they went after the aristocrats. Then they went after the trade unionists. And ultimately of course they went after the Jews. They deprived them of their property, their rights, their citizenship, and for millions their humanity. Because they were bankrupt!”

I wholeheartedly agree with the comparison made by Mourdock. Only a person living under a rock in recent years where we see a U.S. President unilaterally ordering the execution of U.S. citizens without due process of law, who ignores a plethora of laws enacted by Congress and who decrees new laws by fiat like a king which lack any legislative basis could think differently. A President who supports the actions of the NSA in illegally spying on every single American in clear violation of our constitutional rights to privacy and search and seizures by warrant only and who jails reporters and whistle blowers, or worse, deemed enemies of the state while freeing some of the most hardened terrorists we were told were waging war against our country in the same breath that he tells us that an American soldier who deserted his own troops, denounced his country and consorted with the enemy served his country honorably looks and acts more like a Nazi than a President who is sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

UPDATE: The second round of balloting is complete and the vote is shifting in Mitchell's favor, although she failed to secure a majority vote required to win the nomination. Bates finishes third and is eliminated from the third round of voting. This isn't looking good for Seybold. He lost nearly 30 votes on the second round of voting, while Mitchell picked up more than 50 votes.
