Senate Rules Committee Approves HJR-3 On 8-4 Vote
The Indiana Senate Rules Committee just voted 8-4 to send HJR-3, the proposed constitutional amendment that seeks to enshrine Indiana's Defense of Marriage Act within Indiana's Bill of Rights. The committee did not add back the second sentence stripped from the resolution by the House of Representatives that would have also barred legal recognition of civil unions, domestic partnerships or any other legal status similar to a marriage. If the amendment is approved by the Senate in its current form, it must be submitted for approval by the next General Assembly in the same format before it goes before the state's voters in the 2016 general election.
Send this to the people of Indiana for a vote, so our legislators can get on with important legislation. This matter has stalled more important issues.
