Former Indianapolis Mayor Steve Goldsmith and his wife of 24 years, Margaret, announced they had separated and planned to divorce last August nearly a year after D.C. police arrested Goldsmith for a domestic assault on his wife. At the time of his arrest, Goldsmith had been serving as deputy mayor for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who requested his resignation following disclosure of the arrest. WISH-TV's Jim Shella reports that Goldsmith has now officially filed to dissolve the couple's marriage in Marion County.
A police report at the time of Goldsmith's report quoted Margaret as saying "I should have put a bullet through you years ago!" The police report alleged that Margaret had called police for assistance after a verbal altercation turned violent. She later recanted her allegations against Goldsmith after he spent two days in jail. Margaret is a member of the Pulliam family, which owned the Indianapolis Star and Arizona Republic, along with other newspapers, before a family trust that controlled the family's newspaper empire was busted up and sold to Gannett.

I do hope that Steve and Margaret find peace.
