Kessler Claims Multiple Cover-Ups By Obama Administration In Petraeus Affair
Veteran investigative reporter Ron Kessler identified at least three cover-ups pertaining to the details of the Obama admistration's account of the resignation of Gen. David Petraeus as CIA Director following disclosure of an FBI investigation which uncovered evidence of an illicit affair between Petraeus and his biographer, 41-year old Paula Broadwell, a married mother of two young children. Kessler says the White House claim that Obama didn't know of the affair until after Tuesday's election is untrue. Kessler says the claim is not only contrary to what his sources are telling him but also contrary to common sense. Would the FBI carry on an investigation of the CIA Director for months without notifying the President he asks? That would be a scandal in of itself if that is to be believed Kessler asserts.
Kessler claims he learned in early October from his sources that FBI agents were outraged when the Obama White House decided to keep the scandal under wraps until after the November electon when his resignation would be requested. Kessler also claims that Petraeus is using his many friends in the media to spin total lies about what transpired to his personal advantage. Watching the talking head shows this morning you could not reach any other conclusion. To a fault, they were glowing in their praise of Petraeus and questioned the need for his resignation despite the cardinal rule for those working in high-level national security positions not to put themselves in the position of being blackmailed by foreign agents. Kessler says Petraeus was permitted to remain in his position despite the knowledge he had been compromised on orders of the Obama White House. So bad was Petraeus' judgment that he sent more than one thousand e-mails to her after she had ended the relationship trying to win her back Kessler claims.
Kessler also disputes mainstream media reports claiming the FBI learned of the affair after it had launched an investigation of threatening e-mails Broadwell had supposedly sent to another woman. Kessler insists the FBI learned of it after an e-mail from his military account was uncovered in which he referenced something taking place under the desk. FBI agents initially believed the phrase had been used in the context of something corrupt taking place before later discovering other e-mails that established a relationship between Petraeus and Broadwell. Kessler has a very strong reputation for uncovering scandals within federal law enforcement agencies. He broke the prostitution scandal involving Secret Service agents earlier this year. His book detailing abuses within the FBI led to the resignation of former FBI Director William Sessions.
UPDATE: Further bolstering Kessler's report, Politico is reporting that Rep. Eric Cantor heard from an FBI whistle blower two weeks ago who accused Petraeus of having an extramarital affair. “I was contacted by an F.B.I. employee concerned that sensitive, classified information may have been compromised and made certain [FBI] Director Mueller was aware of these serious allegations and the potential risk to our national security,” Cantor said in a statement.
clearly if any of this is true, everyone at every level of government, federal, state and local, ought to be jailed
