The Star's Carrie Ritchie has a story today discussing the
political ambitions of U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett and whether he will run for Indianapolis mayor in 2015. Hogsett isn't saying, but his former boss, Evan Bayh, is, who thinks he would make a good candidate.
At least one Indiana Democrat will say with certainty that Hogsett would be the ideal candidate.
"He's honest, he's hardworking, he's smart," Bayh said. "He values saving taxpayers' money. . . . What a wonderful representative for the Democratic Party and the people of Indiana."
Bayh said Hogsett hasn't mentioned wanting to run again, and Hogsett neither confirmed nor denied that he wants to add "mayor" or "senator" to his resume.
"I think that there's going to be plenty of people interested in running for mayor in 2015," he said. "My job as the U.S. attorney is to work with Mayor (Greg) Ballard, which I frankly have enjoyed doing, so I don't really even want to comment on that possible speculation."
If Hogsett focuses on his current job the way he's focused on his political ambitions, he's got a lot of unfinished business to do, including some high profile public corruption cases involving the Ballard administration. My guess is that the corrupt combine of Republicans and Democrats, which pulls all the strings in Indianapolis, will make sure that doesn't happen regardless of what political ambitions Hogsett may have.
Where does it say that he wants him to be Mayor? Don't see it. Pretty far stretch considering that he wants to be a US Senator. Im betting that Mahern will have something to say about that.
ReplyDeleteUm, Did you read the headline in the Star: "Is U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett eyeing a run for Indianapolis mayor?" He considered running for mayor this past year before he became U.S. Attorney. Running for mayor is a more winnable race for him than a statewide bid.
ReplyDeleteAI,
ReplyDeleteYou have little credibility when it comes to talking about Joe Hogsett. You have repeatedly made your views clear on him.
GW, I agree, a Democrat running statewide has two strikes on him given how Republican this state is. Marion County on the other hand is an increasily solid Democratic county. The D for Mayor next time will be a solid favorite.
ReplyDeleteI have to like the issues Mahern is addressing. But frankly, I don't think the insiders who run this city regardless of party will want him raising thoe issues and putting a stop to their gravy train.
Thanks for sharing, Jon.
ReplyDeleteand where does Evan Bayh live?
ReplyDeleteNEW YORK!!!
Bayh, go back to New York and keep your mouth shut! You've already screwed Indiana and Small Businesses in Indiana enough, as if we need your input for local leadership that can stab it in farther!
