No Business Registration For Litebox, Ouch!

Were Daniels and Ballard punked by this guy? (Indianapolis Star photo)

The question of just how much vetting of Litebox was done by officials of Develop Indy and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation before putting Gov. Mitch Daniels and Mayor Greg Ballard in front of the cameras with the company's founder, Bob Yanagihara, is coming more into focus after yesterday's quickly-called press conference to announce the company was building a new manufacturing plant in Indianapolis that would create more than 1,000 jobs. Yanagihara told reporters yesterday that his company employed 69 workers in California and Minnesota. A quick search of businesses registered to do business in California and Minnesota according to their respective Secretary of State's websites shows no registration for the company. Yeah, I would say Gov. Daniels and Mayor Ballard got punked big time. The only person missing from yesterday's press conference was Ashton Kucher. Oh, and did I mention that Litebox is the registered trademark of another company?

UPDATE: Here's an ad for a 3D product where the same guy behind Litebox was seeking investors. Looks like he's full of innovative ideas.

  1. The Star article made the whole thing sound suspicious.

Ouch ! indeed. Thank goodness Develop Indy and the Chamber are getting combined. More great calls for business investment are likely right around the corner.

  2. It's incredible how much the media has downplayed the obvious thus far. You simply can no longer trust the MSM to look out for the public.

  3. Once again Gary, you unearth the truth.

How on earth did this happen?

  4. I just saw Mitch downstairs in the lobby of my building. As unfriendly as he was acting towards passerbys, he must not be planning on running for another office any time soon.

  5. I just wonder if Mayor Ballard was counting on this annoucement to be some sort of "October Surprise" to boost his campaign.

It it was, I would say the surprise is on him.

  6. There are plenty of LiTEBOX(es) around, but that doesn't deter from the facts. The company exists, it does business, but this LiTEBOX, from my research, is a product of Panasonic.

I can't find any information on what they actually do... and you won't find this in the media announcements either!

The website contains an investor-seeking trailer (no pun intended) so maybe it's some form of mobile advertising technology.

1000 jobs? I HOPE SO!! But, I don't think so..

Plus, what does Panasonic have to say about this?

  7. HEI, the Star article on Litebox was only on line. They did not include even a mention of the story in the print edition. I know because the Star accidentally left a paper today at my house. (I had cancelled all but the Sunday edition a few weeks ago.)

  9. Never mind...it was buried in the business part of the A section where they usually just have AP articles.
