Illinois Democrats are facing quite a quandary. The day after Scott Cohen won the right to run as the lieutenant governor candidate with Gov. Pat Quinn, who narrowly won the Democratic primary, details emerged about charges he held a knife to his live-in girlfriend, a prostitute, and threatened to kill her. His ex-wife has also made allegations of domestic abuse. She now supports him but stands by the original allegations. She has also taken him to court for unpaid child support and alimony payments. Cohen has had tax payment issues with the federal government as well. And did I mention he earns a living as a pawnbroker? Cohen blames his past erratic behavior on his use of anabolic steroids a few years ago when he was trying to put on muscle during a difficult time in his life. Gov. Quinn expects him to do the right thing and drop off the ticket. Cohen says he's going nowhere. What a mess. Republicans, meanwhile, are still waiting to learn whether Sen. Bill Brady or Sen. Kirk Dillard won the primary for governor. Brady leads by just 430 votes.
UPDATE: Cohen dropped out of the race over the weekend. Big surprise.
omg! LIKE NO I WOULD NOT VOTE FOR THIS CREEP!!!
ReplyDeleteHis ex wife wants her alimony and child support paid, of course she would vote for him!!!!
The Booze made me do it.
ReplyDeleteThe Drugs made me do it.
The Time in my life made me do it.
The Friends made me do it.
I'am all better now...trust me.
Typical DEMOCRAT response.
Blame everything and everyone but yourself.
Rich Witney and the Green Party won 10% of the vote in the last governor's race in Illinois. The Greens are ballot qualified in Illinois, and Whitney is running again this year. It should be a no brainer not to vote for the same thing from the same party, over and over and over...
ReplyDeleteI am an abnormal person and I still pay my taxes when due. Hey, I kinda like this guy!! He is an average schmuck like most of us, and adds color to the race. If the IL Dems pressure him to quit he should tell them to STICK IT. The primary voters nominated him, not any of them.
ReplyDeleteI also like Bobby Hidalgo Kern when he was nominated for Congress. I still voted for Burton though. But ya gotta love that in this country you can still get a massage from a prostitute (not illegal), bulk up with some roids (so did McGuire and Sosa), and become a pawn broker (not illegal) and run for LT GOV of Illinois. Your past shows character.
And I have to say, if she is reading this, when Mary Catherine Barton got nominated for Surveyor in the primary, despite the elitist opposition of the Dem poohbahs... that was one of the highlights of Marion County politics in the last ten years.
That is waht makes America so great. And the Dems in particular. It is too bad that the GOP rebels could not take out the powers that be like the Dems can. Well.... not counting Virginia Blankenbaker.
After Brizzi, Motsinger, Plowman et al......IndyErnie probably should look at his own GOP for examples of bad behavior.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Michael. And check out which Dem poohbahs paid the filing fee for an employee of the Marion County Recorder to run against me in my bid for reelection. I took it on the chin, for the team.
ReplyDeleteWhen Mary Catherine Barton first ran for her position, she was supported by the party heads in slating and in the party. A deal is a deal and everyone kept their word there.
ReplyDeleteArt when Mc Neil, Gray and Gibson step up an accept responsibility I might consider your suggestion.
ReplyDeleteSorry art I left out Bateman.
ReplyDeleteI am no defender of Gray, Gibson or Bateman. All are running in 2011 and I believe that the democrats will not nominate any of them. I remember when the GOP nominated a candidate for congress whose wife had to call the police to protect herself and their daughter from his agressive behavior. We still don't know the extent of Plowman's difficulties. What cloud did Ike Randolph leave under? The bottom line is that neither party has a monoply on sleaze. Look at Danny Burton...and he keeps getting elected.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first ran for Surveyor, that was ten years ago. I ran in the primary against the slated candidate, and won. I then went on to lead the Democrat county-wide ticket, in Nov., 2000, almost winning though the then county chair, Steve Laudig, was a very difficult individual, and not very helpful.
ReplyDeleteAfter having won two primaries, without being slated, and another time, getting more votes than one slated for judge, to show support for the decent Ma. Co. Democrats, I did pay the slating fee in 2004 and 2008. Thanks for letting me here clear up the points that artfuggins and Michael made above. And no, I am not surprised that Cohen dropped out of the race in Illinois.
