Local officials were growing angry with what they said was a lack of help from the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In Grayson County, about 80 miles southwest of Louisville, Emergency Management Director Randell Smith said the 25 National Guardsmen who have responded have no chain saws to clear fallen trees.
"We've got people out in some areas we haven't even visited yet," Smith said. "We don't even know that they're alive."
Smith said FEMA has been a no-show so far.
"I'm not saying we can't handle it; we'll hand it," Smith said. "But it would have made life a lot easier" if FEMA had reached the county sooner, he said.
FEMA spokeswoman Mary Hudak said some FEMA personnel already are in Kentucky working in the state's emergency operations center and that more will be arriving in coming days. Hudak said FEMA also has shipped to 50 to 100 generators to the state to supply electricity to facilities like hospitals, nursing homes, and water treatment plants.
Hudak said travel is still dangerous in some areas and communications are
limited.
"We have plenty of folks ready to go, but there are some limitations with
roads closed and icy conditions," she said.

Obama's FEMA Fails Kentuckians
President Barack Obama had very harsh statements about President George W. Bush's handling of Hurrican Katrina, even taking a swipe at him on his new White House website his first day in office. An ice storm in Kentucky has left hundreds of thousands without electrical power in the middle of the winter for days now and some local officials are complaining that FEMA isn't helping out. What? Note to Democratic critics of Bush: Kentucky's Governor is a Democrat, who thinks the Obama administration's response has been just peachy. Here's the other story from the AP:
Where's Obama? Has anyone seen Obama? Can Obama get from in front of the cameras long enough to lend a guy a hand? Americans freezing to death in KY and where is our President?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear the feeble excuses from the Obama Nuts...bottom line is Obama criticized Bush and he isn't doing anymore about those folks in KY than he and they claim Bush did for the folks in New Orleans.
If Obama is the best that America has we are all in deep s#@! without boots..
He won't have to offer any explanaton, Ernie. The media won't make a big deal out of anything he does wrong. Remember how much media attention was given to Bush trying to open a locked door after a press conference during a trip to China? The media couldn't get enough out of that story. Hardly any of them noticed Obama trying to enter the White House through a window the other day, mistaking it for a door.
