Forget About The 2012 Super Bowl For Now; Fix The CIB
Mayor Greg Ballard's office put out a press release indicating that he will be holding a press availability later today to discuss the Indianapolis Super Bowl delegation's trip to Tampa upon his return flight from there. The people of Indianapolis aren't interested in hearing about the planning of a Super Bowl event that won't take place for another three years. People do want to know, however, how the Mayor plans to deal with the CIB's financial meltdown. That is problem that must be addressed this year. The person he put in charge of the CIB is too conflicted to participate in any way with these deliberations. The buck will have to stop at Mayor Ballard's desk. The time has come for him to engage in a public discussion with the people of this city. No more backroom deals with billionaire sports team owners. Just level with us on how you plan to tackle this problem.
The handwriting is on the wall. Mayor Ballard needs to ask for Grand's resignation and he should appoint a strong taxpayer advocate in his place. Since Grand appears to be the one making the decisions on the 25th Floor, I don't look for that to happen.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think it's time for a letter-writing campaign to the Mayor, IndyStar editor and to the city beat reporters for TV and radio, demanding that very thing.
ReplyDeleteWould a city council resolution for such a thing be feasible? I don't know if they have the authority/gumption to do that, however,
Downtown, the Council clearly has the authority to do that. They can always do a resolution setting forth their opinions.
