Burris' Days In The Senate Numbered
Well, it didn't take long for things to go from bad to worse for Illinois Senator Roland Burris. After changing his story about five times after offering sworn testimony before the Illinois House impeachment committee that he in no way, shape or form considered a quid pro quo for his appointment to the Senate seat, he now appears to have confessed to doing just that. This has become too hot for Senate Democrats, who today announced they are launching an ethics investigation into Burris' appointment. The Sangamon County State's Attorney in Illinois is now investigating him for perjury. And he's no doubt being examined by the U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago, which has some of his phone conversations with Blagojevich associates recorded. On top of that, the Chicago Tribune is calling for his resignation. This really is a sad development. I recall a very distinguished public servant back in Springfield twenty years ago. Something has really gone awry here. I hope for his sake it's attributable to a malady like Alzheimer's Disease and not just good ole fashion dishonesty.
