Biden Lied About Wife's Car Accident

In an act of reprehensible cruelty, then-presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden while campaigning in Iowa last year blamed the car accident in which his wife and daughter were killed on a drunk driver. The claim was completely false. The car accident was in fact his own wife's fault. Apparently distracted by one of the three children in the car with her, she accelerated into the path of an oncoming truck which could not stop to avoid her car. Celia Cohen explains at the Delaware Grapevine in a story entitled, "It Ain't So, Joe":

If ever there was a crash that tugged at the heart of the entire state, it was the one that took the lives of Joe Biden’s wife and baby daughter and hospitalized his two toddler sons 35 years ago, just weeks after his precocious election to the U.S. Senate.

It was an unbearable turn of events, from one of the most daring political breakthroughs in Delaware political history to unspeakable grief, and there is no reason to make the accident appear worse than it was.

While campaigning in Iowa for the Democratic presidential nomination, however, Biden did.

“Let me tell you a little story,” he was quoted as saying last Friday in the New York Times.

“I got elected when I was 29, and I got elected November the 7th. And on December 18 of that year, my wife and three kids were Christmas shopping for a Christmas tree. A tractor-trailer, a guy who allegedly – and I never pursued it – drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch, broadsided my family and killed my wife instantly, and killed my daughter instantly, and hospitalized my two sons, with what were thought to be at the time permanent, fundamental injuries.”

Except there was no drinking. There was not even speeding. The truck’s brakes checked out, as well. It was not the driver’s fault.

Biden quickly abandoned the drunk driving claim when he was called out on it. “All I said was what I heard at the time. What I heard from folks at the time is he’d been drinking,” Biden said, sounding agitated. “I don’t want to talk about it. . . . She must have pulled out. . . . It’s still painful to talk about 35 years later.” Imagine the pain of the innocent truck driver's family that he was being falsely accused by a U.S. senator and presidential candidate of getting drunk and slamming into Biden's wife car, killing her and his daughter? Cohen explains that embellishment and plagiarism are not unfamiliar territory to Biden:

The embellishment is reminiscent of one of the problems that undid Biden the last time he ran for president 20 years ago. He was swallowed up mostly by plagiarism charges, but there was also an incident, taped by C-SPAN, in which Biden became irritated with a New Hampshire voter and belittled him by inflating his own uneven academic credentials.

Among Biden’s claims, he said he was named the outstanding student in political science at the University of Delaware and was in the top half of his law school class at Syracuse University, both untrue, and won an international moot court competition, which was true. He also gibed, “I’d be delighted to sit down and compare my IQ to yours.”

As I said when Obama picked Biden, the two are meant for each other. They are the most pathological, self-absorbed people you will encounter in American politics today. Now the mainstream media will not share stories like this which reflect on the true character of Biden or Obama. So pass this story along to your friends. It says a lot about Joe Biden and the person who admired him so much that he put him on his presidential ticket with him.

  1. Says the blogger.

Self-obession is the currency of the internet age.

What president hasn't been self-obsessed? Reagan? Dude was the epitome of Hollywood narcissism.
Eisenhower? Carter? Both guys were so desperate to look selfless that Carter lost to an actor and Eisenhower let McCarthy push him around like a little girl.
    Nixon?

Don't all you muffhuggin' bootstrappers holler about self-interest all day long? How is seeking the most powerful elected office in the world not the most pure form of self-interest anywhere?

Ballgame is over. We got next run.

These are the kinds of people who want to lead our country? McCain isn't much better. It is all about _them_ and maintaining the status quo which allows them to live in the upper crust of society.

This country honestly only has a decade or so left. As soon as the rest of the world figures out we said "Charge it!" to everything, they will dump our dollar as fast as they can blink an eye. Not even the chosen one can stop this.

  3. I have an idea...let's make fun of the way of candidates wife and daughter died....that should be worth some votes....

  4. Who made fun of how a wife and daughter died? WHO?
fuggins, you are the typical liberal. You can't stand to face the TRUTH.

You immediately change the subject, attack the person, or make up some kind of CRAP.

The truth is, Biden is a LIAR, just like Obama.

By the way, all those things Obama has promised to "change" after he is elected...he is a United States Senator, in a democratically controlled Congress. Why hasn't he bothered to change any of those things now? Why does he have to wait until he is elected president?

  5. Lying is just a way of life for your, art, so of course you would find nothing objectionable about what Biden did. You believe the ends justifies the means. That's the way you were raised. That's the way you lead your life. You have no conscience. Of course, you hate people like me who do.

  6. I didn't need this story in order to be certain I wouldn't vote for Obama/Biden. I was clear on that upon a review of the policy they stand for.

  7. Gary, I dont hate you or anyone else but I detest the way you twist partial facts and misinformation and present them as truth. You also tend to kick people when they are down.

  8. art said, "I detest the way you twist partial facts and misinformation and present them as truth."

Help me out, art. Biden's wife and daughter die in a car accident many years ago after his wife mistakenly pulls in front of truck. Many years later Biden is running for president and tells an audience the guy driving the truck drank his lunch and recklessly killed his wife and daughter. The only person being kicked when they're down is the poor guy who is being falsely accused of causing an accident, which he no doubt has relived in his mind for decades.

  9. I'm appalled and disgusted that this poor excuse for a senator would capitalize this accident as some type of voting ploy.

Let me tell you a story senator. On December 23, my boyfriend and his friend were driving home from a company office party. My boyfriend was the passenger in the car.

I was at work the day they started their party. My department was in the process of switching buildings and the phone systems were not working so we had to work from another building without access to phones or internet.

I had this strange feeling come over me about the party. I tried to call him to tell him that if he needed a ride to call me, no matter the time. I got his voice mail and he never got my message.

You see senator, there was drinking involved, his friend was evidently too drunk to drive for he got on the highway going the wrong way, did not have his headlights on and hit another oncoming car.

My boyfried was killed instantly. I got the call from his parents on Christmas Eve.

Now there's a story for you. You piece of shit - lying - alcoholic fraud from Delaware.

Unlike you - I REMEMBER the DETAILS! I live with it every day. Christmas is a great holiday for reflection.

  10. Is it possible that Biden does not want to believe that the actions of his wife killed their little girl? Therefore, in his mind it could not be his wife's fault. It has to be somebody else's fault. How much would he have to hate his dead wife is she killed their daughter? It's not a lie that matters. It's a small lie that people in awful situations tell themselves to get through their day. I mean, does it matter to his candidacy whether his wife caused the accident or the trucker did?

  11. Joe Biden's story is very believable to me because my family suffered the same sort of loss. My beautiful 21 year old cousin was killed in a car accident in 1979. People told our family that the driver had been drinking but it was not pursued. I tell people she was killed by a drunk driver.

We have no proof but that is what people said.

It is good that laws have changed in the past 30 years. Law enforcement now checks for alcohol levels even if the driver may not have been the initial cause of the accident.

If lying is the issue then McCain and Palin take the cake! Their entire campaign is nothing but lies and deceptions. While our economy implodes, we are seduced by a Prom Queen and a Snake. Future generations will wonder how we fell for this ruse. All we'll be able to say is, "She was purty."

  13. RE: The Biden wife killed by a drunk truck driver false story. This drunk issue dogged the truck driver for years. It may have been Biden or his staff trying to make the truck drivers life difficult. Bottom line, whatever lies were following the trucker, he could not stand the attacks any more and committed suicide. Biden should be proud of being the most famous bully in Washington. If he gets in with Barry, citizen of Singapore, then us truck drivers will make sure this true story dogs him for the rest of his days in Washington.

  14. So Camden,
What your saying is that it is okay for him to make up a story about an inoccent victim in this car accident as long as Biden can sleep better at night? It's okay that he is ruining this man's name and causing undue pain on his family because the truth is too painful for him to bear. I'm sorry, no one has said that this was something that should be blamed on his wife, it's just lets not shift the blame to an innocent victim and make something that is already horrible in it's own rights into something it is not. The people who have actually lost someone to a drunk driver should also be outraged that he is making this false claim, whatever his reason. You may believe that it is to help deal with the reality of it, but I say it's for him to get more sympathy. I know it worked for me until heard the truth and now it has just outraged me. He is not only ruining the name of this man and his family but he disgracing his wife and daughter with lying aobut the trajedy buy lying about it...
